Rain-X®: Xtreme Clean TM

Anyone try this product before? I saw it at walmart today and it sounded like something that could really clean the windshield before aquapel. But then it talks of removing oxidation on plastic, huh? So I'm not sure what it is exactly now.

I was thinking of getting it, but then remembered I already have a diamondite windshield kit that should be able to do the same, and a touchless brand glass scrub from years ago that I haven't really used yet. If someone has tried it and it works well without much effort, it might be worth trying. I have the toughest time usually getting a windshield to behave like there is nothing on it, it nearly always beads water no matter what I do.

Well I decided to buy it and try it. Rubbed it in on the windshield with a microfiber just enough to get full coverage. Rinsed it off and yay, it was the first time I've gotten the windshield to stop beading. The bad thing is you need to rinse it off the windshield, not just wipe off. And it's not supposed to get on trim or I guess it could damage it. So I had to make a special trip to the self-serve car wash just to get it off since I normally only do ONR.

I had previously tried touch less windshield stripper and after very heavy rubbing, rinsing it off still showed beading. This was years ago but I was dissappointed that I could never get off whatever was making the windshield bead.

Buy a polish head light kit for that. I think some of the RainX stuff is not save for plastics.

Rain-x Extreme clean actually does an excellent job with headlights and it is fairly easy to get it done by hand, no need for any equipment but a piece of cloth, just use a small amount and do not let it dry, just keep rubbing in circular motion until it fades away. You will see a brand new headlight again, now to make sure that you understand, it will get rid of the Sun damage of the plastic, which is on the outside layer of the headlight plastic, it will not get rid of the fading or damage of the plastic made by the headlight itself, since this kind of damage was made in the internal layer of the headlight plastic.

I have tried it on Chrome and it won't scratch it, I even tried it on the front exhaust of my Virago that thanks to the water/dirt/heat combination can get really ugly and it cleaned it perfect as it was never touched by water and dirt, only the bluish color of the actual engine heat stayed by it is sparkling blue now and not brownish grey as it used to be after washing it.

This product is also great to get rid of running stains of rust on glass, and to get rid of the Original Rain-x accumulated on glass, it will leave the glass polished and clean of any chemicals or silicone. Glass is pretty hard to polish but if you put the effort you will get it done perfectly.

I just put Opti-Coat 2.0 on my glass and never looked back! Nothing sticks to the windshield anymore and you only have to apply it about every two years.
