Quick cleanup on a pair of ZR1s by Immaculate Reflections

No, I'm not talking about getting deoderant stains out of my shirts. ;)

I have lots of little itty bitty pits in the hood of my car from gravel strikes. They look very white against the black paint so they really bug me. How do I get rid of these? I assume it really is just residual polish/wax powder, semi-adhered in there. Is that right? Or is it actually the clear-coat itself?

anyway - if you have a solution I'd love to know about it.....

And I'm not sure it is from rock chips. I have tons and I mean TONS of these things on my hood that were revealed after I used clay and SMR. I know my clearcoat is failing in some places of the hood so I'm not sure if this is related to that.

Ron, help us out here!

Sorry that wasn't clear. This is not rock chips!! They are very small little white breaks in the paint about || big! If you have 800 X 600 resolution they are smaller than you see in the ||.

I'm telling you these things don't look like rock chips at all b/c they all look about the same and there are no large ones where they are! I think it may be paint failure but do not know. I'll have a pic of them within a week.

What's worked for me over the years is a badger hair paint brush. I mostly use my 1" size on rock chips and door dings and a 2" size for nooks and crannies. Trim the hairs down to about 1/2". This will give them some stiffness. Don't use the brush to 'paint' the rock chips, rather dab at them. The ends of the badger hair clean out the white residue right up next to the edge of the paint as long as it hasn't been allowed to sit too long.

I use Prinz's technique but do it with the aid of denatured alcohol which removes dirt and wax residue from the chip. The next step, naturally, is to fill the void with paint. The proper touchup technique is necessary. Follow the method in the archives.

yeah, these are REALLY small - painting them would be incredibly difficult. They are the size of the very tip of a ball point pen - no bigger.

I'll try the brush and alcohol, though - that sounds like a plan.

sound's like you're gonna have to touch them up, got to a craft store and get the thinest artists brush you can find. They have ones as small as a pen tip ;)

Ok guys, I finally went through the 3900 pictures I've taken over the last 2 months (so not kidding) and sorted them out. Here's a pair of ZR1 that got some love. Both Z's got a wash, claybar, Zaino, interior cleaning, clean/condition all leather, and the black one got some paint correction as well. This will be kinda brief since things are still crazy busy at the moment but wanted to put up some pics for ya!

Silver 2010 ZR1 was shot with my old Nikon D40 and it was a super lame overcast day :( But it cleaned up nice!

Here is a black 09 ZR1. Needed some paint correction to correct for some light swirls and scratches before sealing with Zaino.

Only had time for after photos with this one. But I shot it with my NEW Nikon D90 :) Still haven't tweaked the settings on it yet, but pics came out nice.
