Questions from a PC newb

Hey guys I just got my porter cable in the mail today and went to try it out and noticed that on any speed under 5 it makes an inconsistent rattling noise that sounds like metal or so... Not sure if this is normal. Im using the 3.5" backing plate with 4" pads. I noticed that the backing plate and the pc itself came with washers. Am I supposed to use both or what? Not sure if it mightve been dropped on its way here or something. Also is there any easier way to remove the pads from the velcro? I have to squeeze the pad pretty hard and requires quite a bit of effort to remove it from the backing plate. Thanks for the help

The rattling sound is normal and yes do use the washer. Leave your hand over the head of the pc and this will cut down the noise, but will vibrate the hell out of your hands until you get used to it. You only have a 1/4" of pad to remove from the bp and it may be a little hard.

Rattling noises are not normal.

Yes, sometimes quite a bit of force is required to remove the pads.

One of my PCs has been doing the rattling noise thing for a few years now; never got worse, doesn't seem to have any real problem :nixweiss

If in doubt, take it to the local PC repair place and have it examined, but don't let some fast-talker sell you a rebuild that you don't really need.

I did some more research and its a common 'issue'. Nobody has reported failure from it though. 0ne person suggested getting bolts the same thread size of the handle and putting them in both holes on the sides of the PC and that will keep the rattling down. Or hold it by the black part.
