Question on pad selection

Hi everybody,

I have been reading for a while and decided to make an account to receive/provide help.

I will be buying new pad(s) soon...

I have been using Meguiar's pads previously on my car. I have to buy a replacement for W8006 pads because they ripped. I have a Velcro backing plate with a PC7336SP.

I have been reading about the Lake Country pads and I would like to try those. With the information I gathered, it seems that the Orange pad=~7006 cutting pad, the White pad=~8006 polishing pad, the Black and blue pads are like a Meguiar's 9006 finishing pad.

I will be using Meguiar's #83 and #80 with these pads.

Does #83/80 work better with the Orange or White pad?

Also, do the Lake Country pads come with a Velcro attachment and where would be a good place to pick them up for cheap?

Thanks in advance. :-)

EDIT: According to autogeek.net the Orange pad will probably be my better bet and the Lake Country Pads can be attached to any velcro backing plate.

Your pad will depend on your paints surface...

If your swirled up really good, you may have to start with just orange, possibly yellow...

The best advice to give you would be to buy a couple of each (yellow, orange, green, white)

start with the white and see if that corrects your problems, if not, then bump up to green, then orange, and finally yellow.

The consensus around here is start with the least aggressive approach possible and work your way up.

After some practice you should be able to look at the paint and have a pretty good idea of what combo you need to use.

hope that helps

Here's a noob question, say the yellow pad doesn't cut it with XX product... can you simply use the next agressive pad and layer what you just put on (to see if that removes the swirls) and so on?

I'm up and searching, so excuse my rookie concerns!

Yellow pad is the most aggressive you can get from the Flat Foam Lake Country pads.

So you could up the abrasiveness of the compound you're using. You could also make another pass with the Yellow pad and XX product a 2nd time...

Guru's, please chime in.:xyxthumbs

00MaxSe, pretend your question was concerning a white pad. "say the WHITE pad doesnt cut it with XX product", Then yes you are absolutely correct.

The yellow is the most aggressive pad you can get from LC, and the most aggressive ive used on a PC. Also note, if your using a white pad with say SSR1 and its not working, you could go to a green pad with SSR1. If that doesnt work you could try SSR1 with a green pad and so on. You should take small steps from least aggressive to most aggressive until you find what works in your situation.

Hope that helps
