Question for Wet Sanding Gurus

I had an aftermarket hood put on my Mustang. It's a gray metallic paint so the bodyshop blended the fenders.

In doing so I can see a VERY distinct difference in clarity and gloss between the front fenders and the adjacent doors which were obviously not blended.

It appears that it's basically the difference in orange peel. There is far more orange peel on the rest of the car/doors than on the front fenders which are basically orange peel free.

Now would it benefit me to wetsand the rest of the car to eliminate the orange peel or do you beleive this would not affect the clarity and would look essentially the same or worse.

Also how much clear would I have to play with (it's an '06 Mustang only polished once with a PC) and would the negative of having less clear outweigh the benefits of the wetsanding?

Also could I acheive a clearer paint with a rotary polish... meaning would I HAVE to wetsand it to get that clarity?

I've also wondered if it was simply the difference in the paint. Which could definately be it but I don't know and figured I'd ask.

Thanks for any input :)

You could probably sand out the orange peel... however it still might be a better quality paint on the aftermarket sections. I'd take some photos of it and pass it over to the guys at autobody101.com/forums ... they know their stuff when it comes to paint.

It could be a combination of thing. You might have a little more flake in the repainted section. The fact that the factory paint has only has a light polish tells me that it could stand a deep rotary with a wool pad to bring the clarity back. It might be just the factory OP that is giving you the problems. I don't recommend you try sanding this unless you know what your doing. All of your paints UV protection is in the top layer of the clear. Sanding will remove some if not all of this protection. I would hire a pro to take care of your problem and use what you can learn here to maintain your cars finish.
