Question about DACP

Hey all,

anyone has any idea how many passes with DACP, it'd take for one to break through the paint coat of a single stage paint (roughly). I'd like to know in order to *best* get an idea of it's abrasiveness in real situations. I know it's ranked 6 out of 10, on the abrasiveness scale, but I'd like a more practical idea of it, from people that have much practical experience with it.

Best...

Hey Chip,

That really depends on what has been done with the paint up to this point and you plan on doing moving forward.

Do you plan on using a rotary or dual action unit?

Do you have a paint thickness gauge?

Is it OE paint or has it been repainted? Aftermarket paints are much thicker.

What the age of the paint?

How often has the car been rotary buffed and with what

products?

Does it have any paint chips where you can see the thickness of the paint?

DACP is relatively mild so it would take quite a few passes on a newly painted finish to break through. Compound Power Cleaner or Diamond you need to be much more careful with it's use.

Any abrasive compound/poilsh on a single stage paint system will "break through " the paint. I recently detailed a 1993 Volvo 850 wagon, red single stage paint. You go through a lot of cutting and polishing pads and clean them often!

Do you plan on using a rotary or dual action unit? I'm using a rotary.

Do you have a paint thickness gauge? Nope, unfortunately :(

Is it OE paint or has it been repainted? Aftermarket paints are much thicker. It's a red single stage repaint.

What the age of the paint? 2 years

How often has the car been rotary buffed and with what

products? Once last year, and with a very mild polish (3M's 5937 machine glaze)

Does it have any paint chips where you can see the thickness of the paint? Yupe, it gives me *some* idea of the paint thickness.

Hope this helps determine a bit more, but still I'm afraid it's going to be a tough question.

Best regards

Marc
