Question about claying

I have been using ONR (when using nano Skin Pads) or carwash shampoo cut with water (for traditional Clay) as my clay lube of choice forever.

I wonder what everyone thinks about using APC mixed as clay lube with water on a very dirty car when preparing for a full polish and recoat. Is there any advantage? Will the APC destroy the clay?

It is sure super slick.

J. I can't believe that it would hurt. May do something to the clay maybe? Just guessing. My pick up is nasty & I will try it when I clean it. About 6 years of sitting & cruddy. Were you talking about whatever you use as far apc or something special
 
I think that APC will start to break down clay or even NanoSkin.

I have had clay break down using it over and APC applied area that I was trying to clean up.
 
Wouldn't do that personally. I have used soap in the past but it does mar the finish more in my experience. ONR and glide have provided equally good results. On a really dirty car I would think you would want more lubricity as the chances of marring the finish is much greater thus I would do smaller passes with the nano skin as all the dirt is being washed away with a rinse anyways.
 
I would not use APC as a lube. I have seen it stain clear coat. Plus it will break down most forms of clay bar/pad/block that I am aware of.
Plus I avoid getting APC on my skin as much as possible. It dries out my hands really badly

IUDJ is an awesome clay lube!
 
This may cause some uproar, but I use Sprayaway Glass Cleaner for claying, it works better than any QD that I have ever used....
 
I want *LOTS* of lubricity when claying my paint. I almost always use Sonus Glyde, even though it's "soapy" enough that I have to rewash the paint afterwards.

And my APCs kill my various clays pretty fast (I do sometimes use APC with clay when doing nasty wheels).

I don't use IUDJ for claying very much, but if I did I'd use it at QD-dilution, which for me is about 3 ounces IUDJ + enough distilled water to make a gallon. Garry says you can go weaker, like 2.5 oz instead, but I've never had any issues with the stronger mix.

If the car is that dirty to begin with maybe use a decon system like abc first to melt away the dirt. Dawn will also break down clay bars. As far as marring I don't worry about it because I'm going to polish anyway.
 
After years of using ONR as a clay lube I've swithed to UWW+ mixed at Waterless wash concentrations. Very slick-- With a fine Nanoskin sponge I've been able to decontaminate with no marring.
