Q&E wash and convertible tops?

NattyBumppo

Strange name, ain't it?
For all you Q&E users out there, is it safe to use on convertible tops? I have a Mustang Cobra convertible to do next week and may not be able to use my usual garage and thus be relegated to my driveway and the ccccccold outdoors.

Any recommendations/suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I can not give you an answer about QEW but I can refer you to someone who has extensive knowledge and usage of this product - ScottWax. Send him a PM.

Personally I only use products recommended by my carvas top manufacturer (Haatz) for its care. :wavey

When I had my Camaro convertible, I would vacuum the top using the round brush attachment first. I would then rinse the top with plain water followed by washing it with P21S shampoo and a soft brush and then rinse it really good. I then towel dried the top, which really didn't take much drying. After 5 years the top still looked good and I didn't have any problems with any of the seam threads fraying. One thing I never did was apply any fabric protectant on it. If I was doing a customer's car, that would be the only thing I might do differently.

If you haven't already set a price on your detail for the Mustang, you might want to tack on an extra $20-$25 to cover the cost of buying some Ragg Topp Protectant and your time to apply it.

I have used QEW to wash the canvas/vinyl convertible tops of Honda S2000’s, Cadillac’s, a Ford Mustang, a Chevy Cavalier, 2 Studebaker Lark’s and a roadster. I have not had any problems and have even noticed that after washing, the black tops seem to be darker (or less faded). If the top is dusty or has that light rained on dirt, you can preclean it with a vac or even use a Cal. duster to help remove some of the excess dirt before washing.

I've used QEW on vinyl convertible tops-but stick with only microfiber towels on them to prevent lint sticking to the top. Works great. Probably would work well on a cloth top if applied with a brush and allowed to air dry.

Thanks Colabear and Scottwax :up . That helps and makes me a lot more comfortable with the Q&E on that car.

BTW...found a fairly local RV palce that sells the Q&E.
