Putting MF towels in the washing machine

I am a bit hesitant to wash my MF towels in the washing machine. I mean they are loaded with all kinds of chemicals from the different products not to mention bird poop and other nastys from the cars finish. This is the same washing machine that my daughter's clothes go in and while clothes may get dirty they do not have any of that stuff on them.

So what does the hive mind say, is it ok to put MF towels and wash mitts in the washing machine? Maybe I should and then just run an extra cycle empty to clean out any nastys?

you can always pre-soak the nasty/dirtier towels before you put them in washer. just make sure to to a good size load so you don't waste water...

If you have a young child, I'm betting your wife washes some pretty terrible stuff... :)

Wash on hot, use the second rinse cycle and you should be fine.

If your wife uses dryer sheets, never put your MF towel in that dryer - just let them air-dry.

I have 2 young children. And I Machine Wash my MF's.

Go get yourself a bucket totally dedicated to MF's. When you plan to wash them Fill the bucket with some dawn dish soap/water. Soak your Mf's in that bucket.

I do mine overnite. Machine wash and air dry. I've used the regular washer all the time. Just wipe it out and do a regular wash cycle with no clothes in it when your done. For drying I just hang them up over a makeshift clothes line in my washroom.

Or. Be lucky like me. I happened to walk into a free washer, Its old but it works. I've dedicated it to MF/Shop Towel/Work clothes use.

If you use fabric softener for regular clothes run a complete cycle with nothing in the washer, and clean the soap tray, to make sure there is none left behind from previous washes. Fabric softener isn't good for MF towlels.

argetni- If you see a nasty ring in the washer's basket and/or on the agitator (assuming it's that type of washer), you can clean it off with a paper towel. You might want to run an empty cycle on the hotest water setting with nothing added except for bleach.

nailzer- Good advice regarding the softener dispenser :xyxthumbs Some of those are a bear to clean thoroughly.

Atlantic Euro- I sometimes dry MFs in the household dryer, in which we use dryer sheets. No problems, but then I wipe it clean fairly often. Good point though.

unleashedfury- That old washer sounds great. I used a freebie/cast-off at my previous shop for really nasty stuff and it was SO handy!

BigAl3- That presoak of the nastier ones is a good idea anyhow, huh? I get tired of cleaning out the shop's washing machine and getting the worst of the [stuff] out helps in that regard.
