"protecting" CC failure

I have a friend with a 2003 Civic that obviously has the "Honda CC curse" and needs a repaint. He ain't gonna do that for a while, if ever. But in detailing the car, is there anything I can do to protect it for while, against getting worse?

I was thinking of polishing a bit and then giving it a few coats of collonite 845.....

any opin?
