what do you guys recommend on newish wheels that i have off the car and want to stop the brake dust sticking to?

just about what i thought, have used cleaner wax (havnt got srp) and will follow with egp

have also got some muc-off silica protection, any experience of this anyone???

I've got a product that a contact of mine markets through his own company. It's called Hyper Turismo's Wheel Wax and is quite simply the best thing I have ever found to put on wheels. It's safe on all finishes (inc. chrome) and not only removes stubbon marks with upmost ease, but will not let anything stick to them.

I kid you not, a week after you've aplied it you can bring your wheels up as good as new with a cloth. No water, no chemical - the brake just etc just wipes off.

I'll get onto him and see who he's selling it through now.

I applied AIO/SG to my Silver TSW wheels this weekend and I'm thoroughly impressed!!! I cleaned my wheels, once with carwash soap, once with simple green then clayed, then did the AIO/SG....

There was little if any brake dust after 3 days, and today I slid my finger across the wheel to see if there was dust and it wiped off with ease.

Prior to the treatment the brake dust was pretty hard to get off. I will use this until someone offers a better one.

Will apply another coat of SG this weekend...

Also...

a carnauba may melt too quickly on the wheels so I'd go with a sealant for durability...

Washing/Drying/Claying/Sealing intricate wheels is quite time consuming when you have other areas to tackel so you want the protection to last....

Any of your options sound good except a wax. It will "melt" off with the extreme heat build-up.

The only wax that lasts for me is Collinite Insulator Wax which is made for these types of applications.

I use AIO topped with the Collinite.

Many here use AIO, SG or #20.

As I am sure you already know, do not use a wheel cleaner on your rims after you have applied protection. It will strip it off - even the gentle cleaners. Stick with car wash shampoo and water applied with a clean MF or old, clean, dedicated wheel wash mitt.

I like to use a quick detailer on my rims after each wash to shine them up more. Most will do. Just spray the MF and not the wheel.

I would have to second that opinion Spilchy, AIO to clean em up and the Collinite to protect. Collinite has proven itself to me in the past as a super durable wax,. man that stuff went though some rough winters here in Pa and still held it's own.

then wash with car shampoo (1/3) and water (2/3) mixed in a small spray bottle. NO MORE wheel cleaners for me. I will use up all those shampoos in a year or 2.

Another promising solution may be PoorBoy's new wheel sealant. Its a 1-step wheel cleaner/protectant.

Carlack 68 followed by KSG x1 works for me. A week (and over 700 miles) later and I was able to thoroughly wash wheels using just Halfords own brand shampoo (cheap & cheerful) and a mitt, even inside the wheel. Didn't take much effort and they look like new again.

I then followed up 24 hours later with a coat of FI (Megs #34 from memory) which cleaned off any remaining residue & dirt which had come out through a few miles of driving.

I'm trying to avoid using ANY wheel cleaners at all if possible from now on and Carlack seems pretty good at removing any brake dust spots.

Wish I'd not opted for 18" 5 spokes though - you gotta clean them back & front every time or....well it's just not Autopian otherwise!

Otherwise, SRP/EGP would probably do much the same I'd guess.

I would recommend using the klasse twins that wut i do for wen i take my rims off the car! They looked greeeaaat!

heres some pics i had them on for the first snow storm :o

I would agree with my freind there about the PB wheel sealant I will give more info when i can But right now I have three wheels with the aio-sg combo one with aio PB when i wash them today i'll let you know how it is.. AND YES I FORGOT MY CAMERA..

AIO works very well by itself, but the Poorboy's Wheel Sealant rocks. I used AIO then PB & my wheels are blinging!
