Protectant VS Sealant

Marketing has often lead us astray with their terms. I know I have misused the term sealant.

So where is the line between protectant and sealant?

Same thing probably. Protectant is usually a term used for products like Armor All and stuff like that. As in 'Dash Protectant' or 'Rubber and Vinyl Protectant'. Sealants refer to paint care products. Its probably just a misuse of the word 'protectant' if you are reading it in relation to paint care I would guess.

This is where my thought came from.

"We Autopians don't use no stinking paint sealants, we use high tech Paint Protectant Systems! Bahhhh!!!"

Did i misunderstand his jest.

According to dictionary.com I learned that a Sealant is defined as "A substance, such as sealing wax, used to seal a surface to prevent passage of a liquid or gas" and Protectant is defined as "a protecting agent". You be the judge on how they are different... :nixweiss They are both nouns and can be used a number of ways I guess. Nobody would call Armor All a "dash sealant" but I have heard Klasse be called protectant and sealant.

It just may be a lack of a better word kind of issue. I don't think there is really a seperate line of products that fit under each catagory. A sealant is a protectant according to the definitions. It doesn't seem to work the other way around though. So Klasse is a protectant and a sealant while carnauba is merely a protectant. Make sense?
