ProtectAll's All Surface Care Experiment

I'm about to do an experiment involving ProtectAll's All Surface Care. This is of course the company who makes the esteemed QEW, so that gives them credibility in my book. The company says that All Surface Care is their best product.

The company's statements and user testimonials about All Surface Care can be found here: http://www.protectall.com/

I say experiment because to my knowledge no one has tried this yet, but of course I could be dead wrong -- I find that my searches are not fool proof.

What I'm going to do is apply two coats of All Surface Care over the 3 coats of s100 I just put on. According to the email discussion I had with the company, this will not disturb the wax, and will add shine and a lot of protection to the paint. The company suggested I just keep reapplying All Surface Care every few months, and then once a year take it all off and clay it. (Sorry I can't quote from the emails, but the computer I was using has stopped working, so now I'm on my laptop, which doesn't have the emails.)

The company claims All Surface Care replaces five or more products. So far I've done the interior (other than the carpets), and it looks good. Dash dust appears to be no longer an issue. Leather turned out how I like it.

Anyhow, I'll keep you "posted." ;)

Sounds interesting. Are you using the spray bottle or the aerosol? It seems that the formulations would be slightly different.

Hey Thinksnow!

You posted:

Answer: the pump bottle. It seems to me that the aerosol and pump formulations would have to differ somehow – it’s hard to imagine the thick goop I pumped spraying out of an aerosol can.

One annoying thing is that their pump bottle works very messily.

Anyway, I’m no aerosol expert, so I’ll contact the company and see whether the aerosol and pump are different formulations and different costs.

Ive used both and I think the aerosol works better. That just my opinion. A friend of mine uses the pump spray and likes it very much, thats all he ever uses on his Dodge Durango and the dodge stands tall. You can use on everthing except fabric . Adam Huber the guy who invented it was a great person. When it first came out is was made for R.V,s and airplanes and motorcycles .

I am almost out of QEW, I'll have to stop by American RV and get some more and I'll see if they have All Surface Care.

I forgot to mention that I did the tires with the stuff too, and so far (about three days), so good.

Oh, by the way, the first time I ever waxed a car was last week, so I think you ought to consider keeping your salt shakers real handy.

Hey Lawrencea,

Can you tell us whether you can apply the All Surface in increasingly beneficial layers on some materials? How’s its durability?

You said Adam Huber was a great person. It sounds as though he’s passed on and that you might have known him. Why was he a great person?

Thanks. :)

Hey Scottwax,

So you’re getting some too, huh? – cool! :spot

Ummmm ………there isn’t going to be a shiniest car contest or anything, is there Scottwax? I mean, talk about yikes!! I've got sitting-duck serious potential humiliation exposure here.

:scared

Guys, when I ordered some bottles of QEW, they included some samples of a product in sealed pouches. I've never even looked at it. The pouches are fairly large (6" x 8"). Is this the same product?

thx.

I also just ordered QEW and received the sample of "All Surface Care." It is a trial size on a pretreated sponge. It is purportedly appropriate for paint, fiberglass, clear coat, chrome, plastic, glass, vinyl, rubber, finished leather, and "more." It contains a UV inhibitor, carnuba, and petroleum distillates.

To 3WHEELER: I didnt know Adam Huber personally but I did talk to him several times. He would talk a arm and leg off you about waxes and polishes . He knew what he was talking about. As far as durability I would say about a month. It is as easy to use as a q.d. It is between a q.d. and a regular wax. It doesent have any abrasives so the paint must be in decent shape. It is very easy to use and is great for large vehicles

Hey guys,

The ProtectAll guy I've been emailing with is Patrick Huber, VP Ops & IS.

In this quote I have told him about this thread, and I ask about differences between pump and aerosol:

++++++++++++++Begin quote+++++++++++++++++

(3W)-- Two questions about the aerosol vs. pump versions: 1. Are they different formulations? 2. Is there any difference in price?

(PH)-- 1. Same exact product goes into each container. The only difference in the product is the aerosol has the propellants added.

2. Slight difference in price: $10.00 for the 13.5oz aerosol--$13.00 for the 16oz pump. Those are MSRP--your mileage may

vary.

(3W)-- -- Thanks, Patrick. You know, dealers are welcome to come on to the board to discuss and explain their products. Just introduce yourself first.

(PH)-- OOO! No, thanks! Tried that once in the Usenet newsgroups. Flamed for everything from the way I started a message, "Hi, Barry!", (too cheerful, I guess) to having the gall to step in and try to answer questions. I'll just lurk, thanks.<G>

+++++++++++END QUOTE+++++++++++++++++++++

So that was before he had a look at this thread.

This was after:

+++++++++++++BEGIN QUOTE++++++++++++++++++

(PH)-- I just breezed through your Forum message.

1. The aerosol sprays much better than the pump due to the pressure supplied by the propellants. Real nice mist, very easy to work with. Cost effective for a car guy or motorcycle owner. NOT economical for an RV'er or someone doing many vehicles.

2. Dad, Adam Huber, is still very much alive & kicking. Any of the guys on Autopia can talk to him if they catch him in the office. He's usually in around lunchtime to 3:30 or 4. That's the advantage of being the owner of the company. He can see all his grandson's games.<G>

3. No "layers" with Protect All. A second coat re-wets the previous coat. Spreading & drying as per the directions takes you back down to one layer.

4. Durability depends on your situation. A garaged vehicle lasts much longer, of course. Anyone who has said it didn't last too long also said they didn't mind due to offsetting ease of application.

5. The appropriate petroleum distillate can be used. The goal of Protect All was to work on every surface so we examined & tested every appropriate distillate until we found one that works. The distillates mainly are a carrier for the waxes & silicones. It "flashes off"--evaporates.

6. Protect All IS a wax, NOT a Q.D. But then that's just me talking. What do I know.<G>

(Just so you know, Patrick's symbol* for his posts' grins has disappeared from these quotes for some reason.)

Anyway, thanks a lot, Patrick! :xyxthumbs

The pump product is also available in US Wal-Marts in the RV section of the Automotive section.

It seems very slippery (judging by just holding a bottle that had some "leak" or something), kind of like when you walk past the Armor-All section and someone has spilled/wiped it up, but it's still slippery.

Well, I put the first coat of All Surface Care on tonight. My verdict in a nutshell: fantastic stuff!:xyxthumbs

If there’s anything like it that goes on and comes off more easily, please tell me -- I’ll definitely go buy it. You pump it on (I don’t have the aerosol) to a small area, spread it around with one cloth, then immediately wipe it off with another cloth. So simple, I don’t think even I screwed it up.

And let me tell you about the shine. I had clayed, SEPC’d, then put on 3 coats of s100, finishing the last coat last Thursday night. That was one shiny, glossy car by the time I was done. In fact, I showed it to a detailer friend of mine, and he said I’d never get the car any shinier.

Well, I’m happy to say he was dead wrong. The All Surface Care added a gloss and a depth that weren’t there before, and made the paint richer and perhaps a little darker. There was a dramatic improvement! Now, this was in an underground garage, but you could still clearly see the difference there.

I left one little spot free of the All Surface Care, and didn’t like doing even that to my poor car. We’ll see how long I can resist putting the stuff on there.

It worked very well on the glass too.

All in all, so far I’m very impressed with this product. If the company’s claims are proven out (and so far they have been), All Surface Care is one heck of a product.

Updates to follow.

I also got a sample sponge of Protect-All when I ordered some QEW and some Shine Plus. It's a carnauba product with cleaners, I believe. I haven't tried it yet, but Shine Plus is freaking awesome around the house. Counters feel slicker for 6+ weeks (I left one intentionally untreated) and are easier to clean up. It's very easy to apply. It also works well on automotive glass, though I find ColorX cleans the glass better. I realize they aren't the same product, but it's a similar product that's great from Protect-All :xyxthumbs

Hey Aurora, how's it goin'?

My car still looks great. For its first “post-All Surface,â€ wash, I'm going to try just taking the car to the wand wash and lightly rinsing it off, using only the “non-streakingâ€ rinse or whatever it’s called. (I am an H2O challenged apartment dweller). I'm pretty sure it's Protect All's testimonials’ folks who wash their cars that way (i.e., simply rinse with water) most of the time, since dirt etc wasn’t sticking to their cars. (hmmmm……...reminiscent of your counters….)

Anyway, Mr. 40, I sincerely regret to inform you that an inadvertent inaccuracy may have slipped into your earlier post.

Here is the suspect sentence:

If memory serves correct, Protect All's material says that Shine Plus and All Surface Care actually are the same, or virtually the same, product. I think it’s a marketing manoeuvre designed to get the product into the house. I’m going to ask Protect All if they’re the same.

3Wheeler (or anyone)- Do the cleaners in the Protect All (All Surface Care) seem to remove much of the previous wax layers??

Hey softball nut,

I asked the company your question. I've got some info; we'll hear back about outstanding queries tomorrow.

Here's what I know from the company so far: Protect All doesn't disturb the vast majority of waxes. There may be waxes, however, whose forumlations and Protect All's formulation are so similar, that Protect All "re-wets" the wax.

Huh, how about that... Actually, the copy for them does read pretty similarly. If you find out for sure, let me know. Maybe I'll get the Protect-All stuff instead next time if it's cheaper. I guess I should try out my sample sponge to see how they compare.

I guess you should try your Protect-All out on your counters then, it really works well!

3W- thanks for your reply....will be interested to see what the Protect All company tells you.

What's was your personal experience....sounds like you are very happy with it applied over S100 (carnauba).
