Proper prep for a new/slightly used car

I have a new Chrysler 300C that I took delivery of in July. Since I bought this before I had an interest in detailing, I "bought" the "paint seal Package" Ugghh! What a waste of $$$! :ticked Anyway, it beads real nice, and they "guarantee it will bead for 5years, or bring it back. Well, I'm not going to let them work on it, but what do I need to do and when? When I wash it, it looks tremendous! I mean, hand wash/dry, and some QD and its good. But since its around 6 months old, should I AIO/UPP or anything? Another thing, my sister bought a 2001 Benz. I told her I would help her keep it up. Same question for her car. Any help is greatly appreciated. You guys are the best. :newbie

tdman I work for a Chrysler Dealer. We do the Touch of Class Paint Sealer. Is this the same your dealer sealed with? What is it you did not like about it ?

First question is: Are you happy with the way it looks? If you are, then keep on with what you're doing. Once you decide that the car's finish needs improvement, then the following steps are standard:

Wash,
clay,
clean,
polish,
wax/seal

I won't start naming products because there are too many to list, but read some of the past threads and you can decide for yourself what to use.

Do you know if polishing/waxing will void the warranty?

Just wondering, 'cause I'm interested in seeing if the car will bead for 5 years, or if you have to do re-applications, and at how many $$. (I'm a "little " skeptical. :D )

What is that stuff -- some silicone-based adhesive protectant?

How can anybody guaranatee beading for 5 years? Sounds to me like a strong silicone somethingorother and they figure nobody will bring it back and if they do they apply another coat of the stuff for $10 and 1 hour of labor.

Yeah, read the fine print, I bet it says something about taking the car in every 6 months or so for some type of "maintenance" coat or something.

Like others have said, if you are happy with the way it looks now, and you think there is protection there, you can leave well enough alone.

If not, then you need to let us know what it is about the paints condition that you DONT like, and what needs to be corrected.

I hate dealer paint protectors. I always think of them as expensive wax jobs that don't last very long. My grandparents usually get the paint protectant even if I tell them not too.

Beading doesn't mean all that much really. Any clean car and many dirty cars will bead water at least to some extent. Heck, my Saab was beading even though it was 8 years old hadn't been waxed in the fours years I owned it. Of course then I became afflicted with OCDetailing and waxed it 10 times in the next month :D

No, it looks real fine! It's very glossy (when clean), very smooth. There is nothing wrong with it. But how long will it last? Even the Chrysler service people said, "Look, there is nothing out there you can buy that will last 5 years!" That said, yes, I feel a little ripped off, slightly confused, and fast approaching 6 months. It could be a damn cold winter. I was just thinking of: Wash, clay, AIO/UPP, topped with trade secret or Pizazz. But if I don't need to, I won't.

They actually said that if we aren't satisfied with the way its beading, or if the paint looks like it is starting to fade, they will do it again, for free.

If not, then you need to let us know what it is about the paints condition that you DONT like, and what needs to be corrected.[/ No, they actually, say that it is warranted against paint fade, bird droppings, tree sap, at no cost. I Googled it and came up with a website. It doesn't list products, but it sounds like the same thing I have.

Thanks for the feedback. I Googled Touch of Class Paint Sealant. It takes you to a website that is exactly what I bought. It doesn't list products, but I know this is the same thing I bought. I asked another detailer in Denver about new car paint seal, and he said it was a product called GLARE. This product is sold by Detail King and cost about 30 for 12 oz. I don't know if that is the product, but it sounds like it. Even this guy said it should be reapplied every 18 months. Sounds like some strong stuff. I guess I'll leave it alone until I don't like the way it looks after a wash.
