Project Dirty Beater II

So I picked up this '84 Rabbit GTI on Wednesday. It's filthy, the paint is horribly oxidized and I have a couple little rust monsters to kill. I started polishing today, after three hours I have the hood and the two front fenders done. This is after two passes with AIO, two passes with Sonus SFX1 and one pass with DP FFP. She's in the garage now waiting for the rainy days to end. I hope to finish polishing this weekend. More pics to come!

More to come soon. After the exterior I have a BUCH of interior work to do....

Sweet car!

I am looking at getting a MKII Golf myself.

Or working some more on my Scirocco.

Have fun.

Excellent results so far! :)

Thanks guys! I know I have my weekend cut out for me. Picked the car up for $800 in WV. It needs a headgasket and some weather seals but otherwise it's real solid. While I wait for all the parts and machining for the head, I've got a weekend of polishing and cleaning ahead of me. Here's hoping for good weather!

WOW – what an improvement :2thumbs:

I love the MK1 GTIs. Well balanced, lightweight, and fun to drive. Any plans to engine swap – 1.8T or VR6?

Wow, what a difference! So what is your game plan for the black trim I had a friend who had a car like that, in silver, when we were in HS. Was a fun little ride.

I have a couple cans of black trim paint. Mother's BTB and the like don't even make a dent in the fading. I'm going to do the trim and the bumpers in fresh black trim paint.
