Hi all,



Friday was the first day since I found this place that good weather and free time came along together, so I spent most of the day trying out my new process. It went something like this...



product / applicator



AG Shampoo / Megs Ultimate MF Mit

Megs Quick clay

SSR2 / Megs foam applicator

Megs #7 / Megs foam applicator

EX / terry applicator

Nattys / Megs foam applicator.



I was applying & removing them all by hand.



EX was a joy to use. Easy on, easy off and lovely results. #7 was OK too, but I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I would be. Maybe I need to do something like SSR2.5 and SSR1 before #7 inorder to really see the best from it.



I'm quite pleased with the results, but SSR2 didn't remove the worst of the swirls. I think it's either because i used the wrong applicator, or it's not got enough bite, when applied by hand. It's also quite difficult to judge when it's finished working.



I'd appreciate any advice. Is there anything that does the job but is easier to use by hand? ScratchX perhaps? Or do I need a different applicator?

Sounds like you made some good progress, must've been a big job.



I really don't care for #7 except on single-stage, dunno how much it added over just using the EX.



Stuff I've used that worked OK by hand: 3M PI-III RC and MG (05933 and 059377) and 1Z Ultra/Extra, Paint Polish, and Metallic Polish.



The stronger products above (05933 and 1Z Ultra) will work on some pretty severe marring, even by hand, without the need for any special applicator. Especially the Ultra. Follow up with something milder.



Since you have the whole vehicle looking good, I'd just do one panel at a time if you want to improve things. Every wash, work one panel. Less overwhelming that way, especially when doing it by hand.

Yeah, it was a big task to get it all done before the light started to fade. I'll definately do a panel at a time next time.



I found that the horizontal panels had worse swirling than the vertical ones anyway, so if I do them one at a time I can tailor my process for each panel rather than treating the car as a whole.



I forgot to mention before...



A big thanks to all the Autopians. I'm still at the begining of the learning curve, but my car already looks a lot better thanks to you guys.

You think it looks nice now, just wait. It'll only get better.



Get some good lighting, maybe a halogen worklight. I think you'll find that the vertical panels are about as marred as the horizontal ones, it's just harder to see it. Gee, wasn't *that* a nice bit of news :o
