Professional vs. Consumer

I'm pretty new to this forum. I wanted to know if there is a difference between professional products vs. Consumer products? I hope the question is not too vague...

I think it depends on what kind of product it is. In most cases the professional products are much better but there are a lot of over the counter products that are very good as well. Most people who do this for a living buy the professional stuff not only because of how good it is, but because they can buy it in large amounts, and because a lot of it has to be diluted, saving them money.

I can't speak to all products, Meguiar's is the one line I'm most familiar with that features both Consumer and Professional lines of products. As far as Meg's professional Mirror Glaze line, they're all "body shop safe". Meaning no silicons or other stuff that would adversely affect paint spraying if it got in the air or on surfaces.

The Detailer line, while not touted specifically as "body shop safe" is packaged in bulk sizes with professionals in mind and in many cases able to be diluted for cost-effectiveness.

The Gold Class and Deep Crystal consumer products appear to be made for the less experienced. They're supposedly made to be easy to use and provide the less experienced with good results as well as wider availability.

Many of the products are viewed as almost interchangeable... Ultimate Compound available OTC cuts almost as well and finishes as nice as M105 Ultra Cut Compound in the Mirror Glaze line. According to Meguiar's Online, X-press Spray Wax uses the same base as Ultimate Quik Wax available OTC with different coloring and scent... which I interpret as being basically the same product.

IMO, it doesn't matter so much what product you use as long as it's suitable to the task, results are based more on the experience and abilities of the detailer. A top notch detailer is going to get top notch results regardless of product. The less experienced using top-shelf products with halffast technique is going to get a halffast result.

Very true also some are the same product but the professional comes in gallons instead of a small spray bottle.

Ultimate Detailer and 135 same thing but 135 comes in gallons
