Products that prevent glass chips/breaks?

I own an Acura TSX with foglights. The foglights are very low, and have been picking up chips and one eventually broke. I've been trying to think of someway to prodect the lights in the future. I know about the Xpel clear bra kinds of products, but the foglights run too hot for those applications (various TSX owners have reported that Xpel browns after only a few days of use).

Would something like Diamondite help protect the foglights?

Other solutions?

Griot's has a headlight cover similar to XPel but I wonder if it may be more durable...might be worth looking into. My bet is that a plastic/polymer cover may be more resistant, assuming you can get one that withstands hi-temp, than other options.

I don't understand how fogs run 4 times hotter unless you're talking about Acura specifically. How hot they run depends on the wattage of the bulb and the lamp design. Many of the lamps have smaller areas, but most car manufacturers compensate for this by using much lower wattage bulbs.

I have seen people put hotter bulbs in their fogs and then when they get dirty the things overheat and cause yellowing.

I see a lot of people wanting more performance out of their fogs and then running them all the time when their main lights are on. Fog lights are intended for fog. They throw light at a lower level and into the periphery. This doesn't really help and may actually make things worse for normal driving because it puts light in places where you don't need it and can cause the driver to get distracted.

Well, the information that the fogs on the Acura run a lot hotter than the headlights comes directly from Honda USA. And, if you take a peak at the picture above, you'll see that it was the Xpel around the fogs that browned. The headlights had no prob. But, it is possible that four times as hot number was inaccurate (I have no idea where I got it from).

Now, your other comments make good sense. But, I suspect most drivers run with their fog lights on primarily because they like the way it looks. That is more or less the reason I keep my fogs on all the time.

I have Expel on my front end, hood, mirrors, head lights, and fog lights. No issues with the fog lights at all and I have them on all the time. I drive a Toyota though not an Acura.
