product shelf life?

I bought #83 and #80 about 3-4 years ago. They sat in my garage, sealed in a big plastic tub, for about 1-1/2 without being used. I took them out the other day and they are all caked up in the bottle and #80 has green color? I tried to mix it but it would not mix? #83 was thinner than usual and #80 thinner and green tint? anyone? Should I talk to someone at meguiar's?

#83 is a little less then half full.

#80 is a little more then half full.

My #80 is a greenish-brown, but I dunno if yours is OK-colored or not :nixweiss

I can say that my #80 is older than yours and it's still fine, in fact, I have polishes from the 1980s that're still fine; I just don't encounter shelf-life issues with polishes/compounds/LSPs very often.

If they froze, they are garbage. If they haven't gotten that cold, they should be OK.

He lives in NJ. So, I would say if they were stored in the garage it's more than likely that those bottles froze at one point or another.

That's great to hear, cause I think I have enough SIP (2 liters that I bought from England.. ouch) to last five years.

I'd sell off some of it, but I bought it at a premium from Clean and Shiny, and the shipping was huge. Glad to see that some U.S. Menz dealers are now carrying 3.02.

The only shelf life issues I've ever had were with Zaino. I've had ZFX go bad after three(!) months (never did call Sal about it), and an unopened bottle of Z2 (it got lost in a move) go bad after a year.

The only shelf life issue I have had is Menzerna FMJ. It became chunky which CMA said was not unusual. CMA told me as long as it doesn't smell foul, it should still be good. It applied pretty much the same but had about 1/4 the life on the car so now I don't use it anymore. I have some 3M IHG on the shelf for about 5-6 years which works as good as new.

That's surprising because my bottle is 3 years old and still seems fine last time I tried it...though that was about a year ago.

I have a tin of #26 that's 15-20 years old. It still buffs off just as hard as when it was new!

They did not freeze, but may have got a bit cool, and a bit warm in summer, my garage is very well insulated. All my other polishes and cleaners etc. are fine!

I do my laundry in the winter/summer, and the temps aren't bad at all I do my laudry in shorts/sweatpants and a t in the winter and it's a lil' nip, but not freezing. my water pipes don't freeze!:nixweiss

cheapshot- Nah, I don't think that was the problem. Some of my older products spent over a decade in a shot that got *HOT* in summer and *COLD* in winter and they're still fine. Could just be one of those things were we never really figure out what happened :nixweiss

P21S, Souvaran, Meg #16 paste waxes seem all tried out in the cans. For example, I see some tried bubble on the blue colored paste wax. P21S looks flakey inside the plastic case. Same with my other wax Meg's Yellow paste wax.

Are they all safe to use after warming them a little bit to melt them somewhat? I bought them about 2 years ago. There is no expiration date on them; so it is difficult to see how long the shelf life is for those products. Those items I mentioned were never frozen before.

Are you sure you're keeping the lids on tight? It takes me a good ten years to use up a can of #16 and it never goes bad, ditto for my other paste waxes. My little jar of Zymol cleaner wax for interior wood hasn't dried out in over 20 years despite having a cracked lid (that one surprised me).

If rubbing the applicator over the wax rapidly doesn't soften it up, you might try a little heat (but I mean a *very* little). I wouldn't be surprised if the wax softens up once you start rubbing the foam applicator on it, but if it stays hard I'd just get some new stuff- better safe than sorry.

Sorry, I'm kinda at a loss for an answer as this just doesn't happen for me...my can of Pro #41 yellow wax from the '70s is still OK! Well, at least it was the last time I checked on it :D

Oh, and welcome to Autopia!
