greetings all

this is my first post on autopia so be kind.

i own a 2003 premium white pearl Honda accord euro ( Acua Tsx) with a few swirls, scratches and one or two paint chips your usual daily driver stuff, other than that is in pretty good shape.

after reading many of your articles i have decided to take the next step in serious detailing and buy a porter cable 7424, however i am still confused on the product and pad combo's, what products in which order etc etc, i am looking at spending $300 -

$400 on a full exterior kit incl the porter cable, pads and full product line the get the richest , glossy paint work possible ( now your all laughing because i have a white car , why did i buy white  ) so if you could out of all your vast experience tell me the best products and pads for my situation and in what order i should use them in

Thanking you all in advance for your help

regards Cameron

one final thing i would like to tell you all how lucky you all are in the states and other parts of the world, currently here in australia we are in the middle of a drought and have water restrictions which basically means it is illegal to wash your car so consider yourselfs lucky ( and feel sorry for all the car Enthusiasts down under)

Cheers guys,

Hi Cameron, :welcome to Autopia!

The first thing you’ll need to use a Porter-Cable 7424/7335/7336/G100 is a voltage converter. It only comes set up for 120V. A search for transformer or 230V or something like that should get you to the discussions about what the guys in non-120V countries are using.

The other option would be to use a similar machine from some other manufacturer. There have been discussions amongst your fellow Ozzies on that subject too.

If you‘re stuck with wash restrictions a white car is a blessing. Personally, I love the look of a really glossy white car.

For product and pads everybody has their own favorites. Generally you want at least a couple different grades of cutting polishes and enough pads to have one for each product plus a spare or two.

I mostly use Meguiar’s products. In your situation I’d start out with #83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish, #80 Speed Glaze and maybe either #82 Swirl Free Polish or #9 Swirl Remover. Three to five W8006 polishing pads should cover those. Then you’ll want a couple W9006 finishing pads for waxing.

If you do use Meg’s pads be aware that they’re designed to work with a 5 (125mm) backing plate. Most PC dealers sell them. Some include them in their polishing kits.

PC.

There are other polishing machine like PC?? Could you name one? I ask because a PC cost a lot for non USA country (shipping, 240 converter, taxes and so on.)

Cyclo makes a 240v machine I think - its like a PC on steriods.

As far as white cars go, its hard to beat the optimum kit - Optimum Compound on an orange pad for swirls, Optimum Polish on a white pad for finishing, and Optimum Poli-seal on a black or blue pad for protection and added gloss. Top it off with Optimum Spray Wax at every wash and you'll be golden - I used that exact combo on a white 650i this weekend and it really impressed me.

We have water restrictions here too, for a few weeks every summer. I'm surprised noone has sugggested ONR (optimum no rinse) . It'll allow you to wash a lightly-dirtied car without a hose. I thought it was one of those snake oil products, until I used it...

*edit* Ive had good luck on your color white with the EX-P/Natty's Blue combo.

We are on the same boat.....

PWP TSX ftw....

VM --> EX-P --> Natty's blue is awesome.....

anyone has a PC video that shows how they detail around the door handle or/and non flat surface? how about A-pillar area?

How much area do I actually need to tape off?
