priming the pad?

Hey all,



I see it mentioned every now and then about priming the pad in order to keep dusting to a minimum with products like Menzerna PO91L and PO85RD 3.01.



Am I correct in thinking that this is done by spraying the pad first with a quick detailer and then applying the compound / polish?



If I've got it wrong or missed something, please let me know.

P.S. I guess I should ask if this is done once at the beginning of the process or throughout.
 
Not a QD, a polish pad conditioner such as CG's and XMT

I think it mainly helps to stop the pad caking up with product and be able to prime the pad without making the polish more aggressive as water can do and QD might.
 
I use Meg's QD, and it seems to work fine.



Just spray the pad once, apply the Menz, and polish away.



Personally I also spray the surface I'm gonna polish (lightly), just to give it that added lubrication - it goes alot further this way too. It still dries out after a few passes, but it keeps the dust at bay a bit longer IMO.



And just to answer the PS. - yes, I'd continue to spray throughout....but again, only lightly.
 
I spray the pad once with XMT pad conditioner..after that the polish will keep the pad primed.
 
Thanks guys for all your responses. I didn't realize there was a product specifically for this. I'll have to look into that.
