Pricing 2009 C300 MB

Like to get some opinions on a fair price for this car. It is a 2009 Demo Mercedes Benz C300 4matic premiuim package. Anyway, this car has 10000 km. on the odometer. It has been used as a demo car, btw they do not let the car out without a salesperson along, so I doubt if its been abused. The msrp is around $49000 and the salesman said they take about>20 cents per km off the price for that use, so about $2000. No I did not laugh at him!!! General rule I've always heard is the car loses 10% of it value when it drives off the lot, let alone 10000 kim later. I would lose the warranty for the period its been used also, and while the km doesn't bother me, the time lost does, to a degree. There is also manufacturer incentive of $1500. from MB., But that has nothing to do with the asking price. Also would it be right for me to refuse to pay the freight and dealer prep as that was not done for me on a new car?

Anyway could I get a few , or a lot, of opinions on what would be a fair offer for this car? Thanks a lot guys.

I am pretty sure that car has been abused. Don't kid yourself by thinking that having a nanny during test drives keeps people from doing that. I have hammered a car in a test drive (and not bought it, it had a some issues that kept me away).

I would try to go lower. Two grand off? Does that include any other negotiations?

I would try to go lower, did you look at the MB website, they list used MB's.

You have to go into the link to see what they have for options, but a good start.

I would make a lowball offer based on these and the autotrader prices and walk away, let them call you back. It works sometimes; although with my attempt it sold 2 days later :(

Good luck, they are nice cars. I am still not sure about the reliablitly, I ended up with an Infiniti.

Altima 3.5 no negotiations at all yet. Still ahve to drive a bmw 135.

Spoonhead, are these cars in Canada?

I think you should get the price down more than $2000, it's a used and abused car. 10000km is not close to new anymore. I wonder what they would give you if you traded in the same car to buy a new similar one?

my dad bought a DEMO lexus rx350 with 14000 miles and the condition was great. Whats a DEMO though? is it a car that the dealership gives there workers to drive?

Exactly, I have had plenty of salesman TELL me to put the hammer down, earlier than I would, on a cold engine. I GUARANTEE it has been abused. I'd shop the CPO cars in that same age range, it will be cheaper and you will get a longer warranty for less.

I worked in accounting for almost 5 years at a Nissan dealer. On a car like that, the dealer would probably make around $4000 on the front end if they sold it for MSRP. It sounds nice that they're willing to give you a discount for the mileage, but in reality they aren't losing much. They are giving you $2000 only to be reimbursed $1500 from MB(if you actually meant a rebate, then it would be taken out of your balance like a downpayment) So they are out $500, oh wait let's add back in that $400+ processing fee. So they still made $2000+ by selling you a used car. Your 10000 km is about 6200 miles in the US. I can vouch that majority of new cars sold with over 1000 miles, the customer paid close to invoice. They saved even more if that car had a rebate.

Here is the reality of buying a new car at the end of the year. Today you buy your '09 with 10k km and I buy the exact same car, '10 model. I'm $2000 in the red over you. Well February comes and we need something bigger, so we go back to the dealer for trade in. The dealer says to me, your car is mint, 3 months with only 4800 km, we can give you a great trade in amount. But what happens to you? Well Mr. Baker, your car has almost 15000 km and is over a year old, this is all i can offer you. What just happend? I got $6000 more than you did! Moral of the story, a new car will depriciates while sitting on the lot- especially when the new model year comes out. And 10000 km is plain stupid, everyone else that test drove that car left the lot with a newer one.

I am not sure how things work in Nova Scotia. In BC, people are buying the 2009 C classes for a thousand dollars or two above MSRP. Also, the Mecedes Benz retailers here are not dealers; they are stores that do not offer discounts. They only time you pay below MSRP at a store is when there are manufacturer incentives or rebates.

I bought my 335i for $3000 above MSRP. None of the BMW retailers here would even sit down for paperwork when I mentioned MSRP.
