Premium Detailed 2007 Magnetic Black Nissan 350Z

Garry Dean

Garry Dean Quality!
306 HP 2007 Magnetic Black Nissan 350Z. Sounds fun doesn’t it?

After about 13 emails and hundreds of questions I finally put this detail in my book. I could immediately tell that the owner of this Z really cares about her car. I was instructed that she didn’t even want swirls in her door jambs. The owner of this car is very busy and told me that she hadn’t washed it in 6 months (It is garaged when its not being driven). Her main concern was some water spotting throughout the entire car. She had been dealing with a local Nissan dealership that had chipped up her very expensive Volk aftermarket rims while the car was in for its 15k service. So she put the stock wheels back on while they were being repaired. As we talked more about the car she referred to it as “dated” as the new 370Z was new for 2009. I would hardly use the word “dated” to describe this car.

When I arrived for this detail, I was pleasantly surprised at how well she had cared for the car. There were absolutely no swirls! The only real issues were some light to medium RIDS (random isolated deep scratches) and shallow water spotting. I was hired to do an exterior detail only as she had already done a wonderful job detailing the interior herself.

The process

Exterior paint and glass:
* Dawn presoak and wash with two bucket method
* Clay bar paint and glass with Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay
* ONR diluted as clay lube
* Taped with 3M blue clean release masking tape
* Polished paint with 6.5” and 4” Green LC pads, Menzerna Power Finish PO203, and G110
* Cleaned glass with Stoner Invisible Glass
* Polished glass with Meguiars D151 (Paint reconditioning cream)
* Sealed with Optimum Opti-seal
* Waxed with Pinnacle Souveran
* Finished with Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detail Spray

Wheels, tires, and wheel wells:
* Sprayed with Eagle One All Wheel and Tire Cleaner
* Wheels, tires, and wheel wells cleaned with EZ detail brush and other various brushes
* Wheels clayed with Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay
* Wheels waxed with Wheel Wax brand Wheel Wax
* Tires dressed with Optimum Opti-bond Tire Gel
* Wheel wells dressed with Meguiars Hyper Dressing diluted 4:1

Now without further ado, on with the detail.

Some before shots. (We all know what a dirty car looks like so I will keep this part short)

Great job Garry. :bigups

Did you up-sell the Souveran? Did it make the paint look better than just the Opti-Seal?

Thanks Troy! No, I don't "up-sell" products, ever! I use whatever it takes to make a vehicle look its very best no matter whether or not it costs me more.

I noticed more depth after the Souveran.

Looks amazing...great car choice, as well, but I'm not bias :notme:

I don't know how much you're in touch with this lady, but if you get a chance, could you ask her where she got her headlight housing painted? I've been dyin to get that done on mine, but don't trust anyone! I'd really appreciate it, thanks!

And again...:yourrock

I will email her. She told me where, but I forgot. She said it cost her like $650 to have it done and she had to ship them up to New England somewhere. I will PM you when she replies.

Thanks!

*Sigh* Why can't I find a girl who's a total gear head like me? Is the owner attractive/my age/single? (Joke...)

Great work on the Z!

Nice work on the correction and final finish!

I too see Souveran giving it more of a depth as I used to top other sealants with Souveran.

Smart lady, has film on the car! Sure, it may look odd to some, but it does help keeping stone chips off the nose and keeps the headlights from getting sandblasted.

How did you like the 203 Power Finish? never used this one (yet). I'd finish with 85RD or 87 to really jewel up the finish. I'm not sure how soft that paint is, but hopefully it's not as soft as the paint on my Porsche.

Once again, great work!!:bigups

Regards,
Deanski
