Practicing skidding

We got a bit of new snow last night, so I decided it was time to practice skidding. I headed to the huge parking lot at the local mall, after closing. I wasn't the only one with this idea. I saw other people playing in the snow with their cars. I had I nice big space to myself and hit the brakes. Haha. The ABS kicked in and no skid. Tried it again, same thing. So, I accelerated while turning and managed to skid a bit. It was great fun. I think I got a pretty good feel for how to handle a skid in this car. I forgot to try braking and turning at the same time. So, I guess I'll have to go practice some more. Oh darn ;)

I would love to have a bigger space to pracitice in. I would be able to get the car going faster for my skid practice. I am determined to go to skid control school one of these days when I have some spare money.

Anyways, I love the way this Volvo with Nokian tires handles in snow. Anyone else been practicing skids?

Oh man, the last time I practiced skids was in University when I was driving a RWD Chevette! :p It was fun and educational, though my attempts at doing donuts were met with mixed results. Not enough snow or opportunity in the last few years. Needless to say, I'm out of practice :( but at least my current car has ABS.

ohboy..... lemme tell ya... don't try this in an SUV. I almost flipped over a couple times :o

I figure practicing is to find out that stuff. How hard can you push it and still recover.
