Power buffing

I've taken good care of my car for years as far as cleaning and waxing. But I'm relatively new to buffing out swirls and flaws in the paint.

My question is, for bad swirls and cloudy paint from a car cover how much time would you spend on a hood or fender with the buffer?

I realize this will vary person to person and with the products used, but I want a general idea. I buffed mine out with megs swirl remover #2 and didn't seem to do much good, but I don't want to buff thru the paint.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I spend about 10 minutes on a fender, does that sound like enough time. Just trying to get a feel of using the buffer.

Guy- When trying to remove the sort of marring that REALLY calls for a rotary, anything else (a buffer like yours, a PC, your hands) can take a VERY long time. Some Autopians, myself included, have spent literally HOURS working a single panel. Then we wise up and buy a rotary ;)

*I* can't accomplish much in 10 minutes if I'm working with marring like swirls/scratches in normal, pretty-hard paint (like most clearcoats). That's with a PC or a Cyclo and middle-of-the-road polishes. Using a harsher polish/compound just means you have to go over it with something milder afterwards, so that takes time too. For *ME*, ten minutes isn't very long for a panel.

Mine is a rotary I think, but right now I'm laidoff and can't afford a better one. I just wasn't sure how long to go over a certain area, I didn't want to go thru the paint.

I'll try to be more aggressive next time. Thanks for the feedback!
