When it comes to detailing; what new skills have you learned during this past year?

What valuable information did you gain from the helpful members here at Autopia?

Were there products that you started to use this year that allowed you to produce better results?

Did you improve or upgrade your detailing process compared to the old way you did things before? If so, why not share your thoughts.

What were your Detailing Accomplishments for 2005?

Wow, great thread! I have learned a lot on this forum in the past year, and I appreciate everyone's advice and quick responses when I have questions. I really enjoy the way this community will guide others in dealing with the things that come up.

1. New Skills: PC usage, AIO/SG usage, better wash technique (2 bucket), LGCM tricks

2. Valuable Info: Too much to list

3. Products: Poorboy's SSR line, Klasse

4. My detailing process has become even more meticulous than before. I was already way above most people, but then I found this place. I realize that I don't always have the time to take my car to true Autopian levels, but at least I know a little more of how to get there if I want to.

5. Accomplishments: Putting my '05 GMC up for sale and having a guy ask me, "Who did the paint?" I told him it was factory paint and he couldn't believe it. For a 10 year old truck it looks pretty darn glossy.

New skills--I went to the two-bucket wash technique this year. After dumping out the rinse bucket the first time, I knew all I needed to know about that.

Products--Well, I guess Collinite. Definitely quality MF towels. They seem to keep arriving at my apartment on a regular basis. And, good advice on how to best utilize my PC (I was working too fast).

Also, all the product info that I will take into consideration for when the weather breaks in Spring '06.

Accomplishments--I did my girlfriend's minivan during early fall, and when she went to have the Blizzaks put on for winter, the tire tech just stood there and stared at the van.

The info I gained here is invaluable. To use a favorite movie line, "I'm just gettin' started!!"

Thanks, everyone!

1. Pretty much everything. I had no clue as to what proper paint care was. Claying, polishing, glazing, sealing, waxing. Nor did I know the difference between polishes, sealants, pure carnubas etc.

2. Definately the PC. I made a thread asking if it was idiot proof, and it truly is. It made polishing and applying AIO so easy it wasn't even funny.

3. Products I started to use this year... Lets see Claybar, Polish, PC... everything really.

4. I've already upgraded my detailing my process by adding a glaze (RMG) to the mix. Not to mention learning how to use the pc and everything else I've learned.

well, considering when 2005 began I was using a sponge and blue coral soap with a one bucket wash method and now I'm using a foam gun in conjunction with nice sheepskin mitts and a two bucket method, I think I've "grown" quite a bit. Before my idea of waxing was putting 3-4 layers of meg's cleaner wax onto the car, now I'm using glazes, sealants, synthetic waxes, pure carnaubas. My how things have changed! This place has taught me so much it isnt even funny. I truly have the addiction BADLY. The PC is now my best friend. I was always afraid of screwing stuff up and now I'm encouraging others all the time to take that first big step and buy their own. Autopia is awesome, my car looks awesome and that is my acomplishment for the year.

1) I learned, and am still learning to use a rotary.

2) Improved wash technique with foam gun and the use of QEW.

i've optimized and greatly reduced my time using a rotary and Optimum Hyper, Compound and Polish

i finally narrowed down my two headliner LSP's to Zaino's z2 pro and Meg's #21. The others are WG and EX-P. So my 2006 line up will be solely those.. watch out for it in click n brag in the coming months.

thanks to all you Autopia guru's
