Porter cable polishing pad

I just bought the PC 7336 and it came with a white color polishing pad. Having never polished with the pc (or any orbiter), could this white pad be used as a finish pad or should I just use during polish? Has anyone used the double sided rightlook pads?

Thanks

The pad that comes with the PC should not be used for the car at all. You need to purchase a flexible backing plate and some pads design for working on the finish. There are a number of pad kits sold by the online vendors that include a backing plate and a basic set of pads (light cutting, polishing and finishing). I use the pad sold with the PC for household stuff...basically I use it covered with a terry closth bonnet to buff my cabinets after waxing them.

:yeah YOu can buy a pad kit from the vendors. Thats the best way to go they usually include an mf or 2. You can do what I do and use the buffing pad for things such as the lawnmower haha.

Whoa, I just bought my PC 7336sp today & good thing I read this post about not using the white pad included for the car.. :bigups

To each his own, but I used that white pad that came with the 7336 for a year or two with Meg's #9 with no problems other than the nuisance of having to screw it on/off. Never left a mark.
If I had a terribly oxidized finish to work on today, I think I would still use it rather than mess up one of my velcro pads.

I agree with Charles. I have used the pad which came with my 7336, before order pads and a backing plate. The pad is equivlent to LC white polishing pad. I do not see any reason not use the pad for final polishing, glaze, wax application, or glass polishing.

I may try it on one of the older cars. Also, since I'm a newbie at this any suggestions where I can get the backing plate (what size? Velcro or the quick disconnect?) & the different pads? also, what products should I start out with? I may be off topic but thought I'd give it a try. Thanks.
