Portable air conditioners?

Just wondering if anyone here uses one or peoples thoughts/what they have heard.



My bedroom gets intensely hot durring the summer, usually stays around 80-85 degrees, even with the rest of the house at 70-75. It sits on the front of the house and has the vertical crank out windows so a wall/window unit isn't really an option unfortunately.



I just want to make sure that if I do buy one it is worth the money, since they are expensive and I'm still in school

Are you talking about the free-standing units on wheels, or a window unit?



I have central air in my house, but bought a small window unit for my bedroom because it is hotter than the rest of the house. It's a 6000 BTU Samsung and I paid about $120 for it. It has a lot of nice features, including digital thermostat, remote control, and a dehumidifying function. It cools a bedroom down really nicely, but is a bit noisy. I usually cool the room down before I go to bed and then shut it off.
