Porsche Boxster - Paint Correction & Opti-Coat Pro by Mr. Sparkle Detailing - Long Island, NY

Got the call a few months ago to correct a Porsche Boxster which proved to be quite a battle so figured I would share some photos.

The owner had recently picked up the car and knew it was in poor condition to say the least. Swirls, deep random scratches and overall dull finish. We agreed to a multi step paint correction with long lasting protection from Opti-Coat Pro (5yr warranty on all exterior paint).

Opti-Coat Pro is a Silicon Carbide coating (SiC) not Silicon Dioxide like many others on the market (SiO2). This means low maintenance over the life of the coating (no silica spray needed) and no drop in gloss through oxidation over time.

Did the usual wash / decon / clay routine, taped off the trim and got down to business.

Inspection under LED lighting.

I found this paint to be surprisingly hard. To get it right, I had no choice but to wet sand a bit in certain areas.

Shine Supply Flat Top + Flex PE Rotary + Lake Country Purple Wool

Shine Supply Classic Cut + Griots DA (Boss & GG6) + Megs MF Cutting pads

Opti-Coat Primer Polish + Griots DA + LC White

Before you make an omlette, you must break a few eggs.

Did some final prep with Optimum Paint Prep and applied Opti-Coat Pro to all exterior paint, trim and wheel face

I came to ask the same question.

I've worked in a few Porsches and only needed finishing polish to clean up some nasty marring.

The car looks great I'm wondering at what expense to the thickness of the clear coat?

I've followed your work and you do great work. Not questioning you just like to see what the toll was.

What were the paint thickness readings Before & After?

Beautiful! How long did this recess take?

Not a whole lot of user testimony on shine supply polishes, at least not that I've seen. How does it compare to the likes of Meg's, Menzerna, or 3D?

I took paint readings with the highline II, and it varied from panel to panel, but it was healthy across the board (nothing lower than 110 microns). I believe I was getting the same results through machine compounding only, but it took much more time and put way more heat into the panel (doing several passes with wool for example). I would never remove so much clear that I felt the surface was compromised. There are definitely occassions when you have to back off and accept there's only so much you can do. I felt comfortable with this one going forward with the process described. And there was no sanding close to the edges as I feel thats where you get yourself in trouble (potentially)

Also, at the completion of the job we applied Opti-Coat Pro which does (in a small way) act to restore some of the lost clear coat

On the way out I provide my clients with some info on how to go about washing the car (2 buckets, high quality microfibers etc) and I provide them a free sample of ONR (optimum no rinse). The hope being, the car never looks like this again and wont require any aggressive correction work down the road.

I'd recommend looking around some more! Its not super popular in the forums but there are a lot of full time professional detailers like myself who have switched over to Shine Supply exclusively or almost exclusively

Over the course of many years I've used Megs, Menzerna and a host of others. Much of it sits dormant in the cabinet these days. The ease of use and results provided by the Shine Supply line have kind of set that trend. The Shine Supply brand gets used on my clients cars, and my personal vehicles. I feel that means a lot.

If there is one 'must have' from the shine supply line - check out "wet detailer". I use it on exterior paint, wheels, door jambs, under the hood. It helps you dry the car by reacting with the water you've left on the surface (either after a conventional wash or rinseless)

Oh and the Porsche - It was close to 20 hours total starting from the initial prep to completion of the coating install.

Another +1 for Shine Supply. My main staple for my detail jobs Classic Cut + Classic Polish + Daddy O and maintain with Wet Detailer after a wash with their Shine Soap. Their Flat Top is also a favorite of mine and finishes down very well for what's suppose to be "Heavy Cutting Compound".

Amazing work as always Gurge!
