poorboys wheel sealant

There is no cure!
poorboys wheel sealant directs u to clean the rims and then polish them before applying the sealant.

i was wondering if cleaning them with an acid followed by an APC then a car soap would be enough. with all those steps i really dont wanna start polishing with a foam applicator on all the nooks and crannies.

yea but wouldnt the acid. apc, and soap leave it clean enough where a polish would just be overkill?

i guess im pretty much answering my own question.

Using cleaners just takes care of the loose or built up dirt. Polish since it's like another painted surface and Wheel Sealant needs a good surface to bond to.

I did my first 3 coat application of PB's wheel sealant at least a couple months after the spring polishing before putting them back on the car and before I got my polishing ball. I just did a good cleaning adn I am still happy with the sealant's performance coming up on 3 months. When I renew it, I'll do it with the polishing ball. But I was quite happy with the results without a full polish prior to application.

mtwedt what wheels and polish you going to use? I assume you have the Mother's Powerball. Found it isn't the greatest for small spaces, but can do well on the open wheels.

Well, I have a CR-V EX 2004 with the stock 15" rims on it. I haven't broken out my polishing ball (you are correct, it's Mother's) but in just looking at it, I don't think it would get into every surface, especially around the lug nuts. This why I do a full polish when I put the tires on after removal of the snow tires. I did that with PB's ProPolish, followed by VM on the outer and inner surfaces of the wheel. Unless you are a young, flexible person (I'm 49 and post 4 surgeries on my left knee) doing a thorough polishing on the wheels while still on the car can be tough on the detailer's own parts. I get in around the tight, small spaces with a Q-tip, sometimes covered with a thin MF. I think the job could be best done with something like a Dremel tool with some of those nifty attachments. I haven't bought one yet as I have maintained my wheels in good shape since I bought the car new. I think the job on really dirty wheels would be facilitated by proper use of an acid based wheel cleaner, which I don't have. I am able to clean with 1:5 or so APC, a wheel brush and Qtips. Now that I have PB's wheel sealant, I think I will skip the VM (I imagine it would not facilitate bonding and the WS leaves a wonderful gloss anyway).
