Hello everyone my name is Mike and I could use some help for my detailing process. I have the PC 7336 and Sonus DAS Pads with backing plate. My car is a White 1995 Acura Legend. After doing some research this is what I have so far.

Thank you so much
1. Wash car with Megs Gold
2. Clay with Clay Magic
3. SSR 1 (which pad and speed of PC?)
4. SSR 2.5 (which pad and speed of PC?)
5. Poorboys Professional Polish ( how to apply?)
6. Poorboys EX-P (by hand?)

do I need all of these steps?

Please any comments and suggestions.
random questions
1. Should I start with SSR2.5 then step down to SSR 1?
2. Do you need to wipe down the car with a microfiiber after each step, meaning after I apply a SSR 1 , do I clean the paint before I apply 2.5?
3. I have stains (Water)? on my paint where my trunk meets the bumper. any ideas how to remove ? goof off?
4. What kind of tape to I use to tape while I am using the PC

sorry for the long post :bye

I would start with the SSR1 with a light cutting pad first. If that doesnt work, you could try SSR2.5 with a light cutting pad or try SSR1 with a medium cutting pad. You don't want to use anything that is more abrasive than you actually need. If you go up to SSR2.5, I would apply SSR1 with a polishing pad afterwards, then Pro. Polish afterwards with a polishing pad also.

After each step you should use a microfiber towel to wipe off all of the previous product that was used.

If I tape, I use regular painters tape. I will tap the tape on my shirt to make it a little less sticky for easy removal.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

Let's see if I can help...

The steps to a good detailing process would go like this:

Wash
Clay
Paint Cleaner (you could use Pro Polish here)
Mild SMR if needed (SSR2.5 with a polishing pad with PC at 4.5 to 5)
Light SMR of Final Polish if needed (SSR1 or Pro Polish with polishing pad or finishing pad with PC at 4.5 to 5)
Protect (EX-P - by hand or PC)

Work all of PB's polishes until the product starts to disappear. With the Pro Polish, use very little product, but make sure the pad is primed with the product first.

Now, do you need all those steps? Hard to say without seeing the vehicle. However, if it's never been completely detailed, including a good paint cleaning and polishing before, my guess would be yes.

Random question #1...

You probably need to start with the SSR2.5 first. Work one section (2' x 2' area) and see how it looks. If the swirls are completely gone, the SSR2.5 might be a little to aggressive... try the SSR1. If the SSR2.5 removed "most" of the swirls, but you still see some... you've probably got the right product. Work the area again to see if this gets them nearly removed. If it does, you can step down to the SSR1 to finish them off. However, finish the vehicle with the SSR2.5... at least where it need it. Don't mix products on pads.

Random question #2...

Yes, you need to wipe the area immediately after you work it (that 2' x 2' section). Abrasive polishes are not waxes. You need to get the residue off the paint as you are working the sections.

Random question #3...

Anyone of the above polishes may (or may not) remove the water spots... depending on how bad they are.

Random question #4...

I use the blue painters tape. If you are careful with a PC, you can minimze taping... but it doesn't hurt to do it.

Hope this helps.

All good tips mentioned above. Don't really have anything too add. I use Poorboys products on my Legend and have gotten GREAT results!!

Ok guys , thank you very much . I have my work cut out for me know.
I will ber doing a full detail today. I will post pictures later on.
wish me luck

Mike

Good sound advice from Boss:) For most cases either starting with a paint cleaner like the Pro Polish or the SSR2.5 will give you an idea of what you really have to work with. I prefer to keep away from cutting pads unless they are definitely called for and then remember there will be more steps with the same product using a polishing pad in most cases.
Good luck Mike and have fun:hippi

Good Luck, Mike!!

Also good advice! :bigups

well this was a long day. I started by doing the carpet cleaning posted by GSRstilez. Then proceded to
Wash
Clay
Poorboys Professional Polish... love this stuff!!
SSR 1
EX-P

took me almost 7 hours

the digi cam wasn't working, i'll try to get some after pics
on average how much SSR should have been used?

does this happed to anyone else.. when you wash your car the next day it rains? can't stand it

Thanks again all
ciao

When it clears up, I suggest washing again and putting on another coat of EX-P. To get the most durability out of the EX-P(or any sealant), it should be kept dry for 24-72 hours after application:hippi

Mike,

I never really pay that much attention to how much polish I use, as it "takes whatever it takes" to get the job done. Of course, there are many variables like...

The size of the vehicle.
The make-up of the product.
How heavy or thin you are applying.
How many passes you are making.
The humidity... and other factors.

IMHO, with abrasive polishes, it's better to err slightly on the side of "too much" product (don't go crazy) rather than too little.

Having said all that, I would guess that somewhere between 2 to 4 oz on an average size vehicle would be normal, depending on the situation.

Well I must say, you all have been very helful. Thank you
A few more quick questions. after further investigation of my work I see that there is still some slight scratches on my paint. how would I go about to remove these ? Could I just ssr 2.5 or scratch X and then top off with some ex-p. or would I have to start all over again?
Thank you

Mike,

Are these some isolated deep scratches or just swirls/spider web marks that didn't come out? If they are isolated deep scratches, I would try the ScratchX and re-appy some EX. If they are numerous light swirls/spider web marks, It might me easier to make a couple more passes with the SSR2.5/SSR1 and re-apply some EX-P.

Hope this helps.

One more things.. how often could I apply these products>? every time I wash could I put some Ex-P or some QD?

The area I live in isn't too bad with fallout and other harmful things in the air, so I only do a full detail about every 4-6 months. I will wax once a month and that usually does the job until the next full detail.

Well Mike, you don't want to be using SSR2.5 every month or so. A couple times a year won't hurt... but don't go crazy. You can use SSR1 much more frequently if you want.

My advice is to do everything you can to minimize re-installing swirls/spider web marks. Pay VERY close attention to you washing/drying/QD'ing processes and tools.

Ok boss, so if I were to add some ssr2.5 would I have to wash with dawn to remove everything? or could I apply the product and then top off with the sealant?
