polyurethane coat on a CF hood with swirls

I'm detailing a car for a guy in the local import club. He has a carbon fiber hood. I asked him if it was clearcoated and he stated:



"Mine has a polyurethane coat over it that protects it. When I got it installed I asked the shop if they could put a clear coat over the poly coat and they were afraid too, just in case the 2 had a bad chemical reaction."



Anyone know exactly what this means? Will the PC+FI-II work for a polyurethane coat?
 
FWIW, I tried to polish our CF body panels on the race car a few years ago - results were disasterous. I'm not sure if consumer CF is different than "race" CF, so take my experience at face value.



The results were horrible - very cloudy and the products "grabbed" and etched the CF.
