Polymer Products And Paint Swelling

Couple of questions to ask.

Polymer products, things like qd, clay lube etc, what effect do these have on machine polishing?

Having read a thread (from years ago) about this having an effect, what effect do they have and if bad which to avoid as a clay lube and qd?

Next up, paint swelling.

Whilst I understand the basic of paint swelling (heat from sun and for instance the friction caused by compound/pad) I have read certain compounds actually cause the swelling itself via chemical process.

Is this true?

After correction and optical clarity in my work.

IT depends on the polish/compound and the product you are using with it. I've been using ONR at clay lube strenght and I've never noticed any negative effects.

Kevin Brown and/or Jason Rose have mentioned some interesting things about paint swelling you might want to search for. They offered some great rational for consideration on paint swelling.

Last time the paint swell conversation came up that I can remember was in regards to folks adding baby oil/mineral oil to M105 to extend the buffing cycle and reduce dusting and as David mentioned, Jason Rose provided some interesting insight into why the paint swell risk could be enhanced.

I believe there has been mention of swelling during the buffing stage(prior to the whole baby oil idiocy) and from the use of solvents during paint inspection.
