In order to get rid of swirl marks/bad waterspots the guide says to use a medium polish. well dosnt polishing your car constantly eat away at your car's finish? or are there differnt stregths of polish that will take away swirl marks/waterspots without eating away at your finish

There are various grades of abrasive cleaners/polishes. If you used something like Menzerna Powergloss or Poorboys SSR3 monthly on your car then yeah you might have some paint issues in a year or two but the proper use of abrasive products is not meant for regular use. They should be used to correct/repair only. After the initial correction process has been accomplished then you "maintain" with a very mild polish, like Menzerna FPII, AIO, SSR1, VM, OCP.

Ideally you will only want to use the abrasive products once, maybe twice in a year and after that the milder ones should work just fine, ocassionally you might need something inbetween, like menzerna IP, but for the most part the mild polishes will do just fine and even those you should only need every few months as long as you are careful how you wash and dry.

I have a client whos car I have been doing for 14 years and I have lost track how many times I have polished it in those 14 years but even after that all that time and polishing there ar eno paint issues or problems. Of course the reason for this is that I only use a rotary on it about once a year, other than that it is either by hand or Cyclo.

well dont swirl marks come no matter what in a few months or so? meaning you would have to repolish to get rid of it?
