polishing stainless steel appliances

i've searched and not seen definitive solutions for this...

what would you guys recommend for polishing stainless steel appliances (brushed stainless...not a mirror finish). all of my appliances are stainless and some have a few stubborn water spots/runs from something and i can't get it to come out.

would a soft 4" pad w/ my PC and -insert product here- do the trick?

maybe just vinegar would do the trick? i've had luck with that on most water spots on glass. some of the marks are actually from the protective plastic that came on the appliances when delivered...or the adhesive under the plastic.

First, WD40 on the spots. Let it set a while. Then, Orange spray Pledge. Don't laugh, it works! I use it at work all the time. It will take a couple coats to get started. Since Pledge is a wax base, it will not show fingerprints as bad as Stainless Steel cleaner which is oil based. Will be just like waxing your car.
