polishing my metal antena

i took this pic a few weeks ago in early october:

the tarnished antena kind of sticks out like a sore thumb :o :o

i've tried using the same metallic polish (i forget which kind now) that i use to shine up my stainless steel exhaust tips. it makes the antena shiney, but the blemishes and tarnish are still there. I think this is because the antena is aluminum and the tarnishes are in fact corosion of the metal.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions to getting it looking super shiney again and keeping it shiney? last resort would be a buffing wheel, i guess?

Thanks

Tim.

I've tried a bunch of metal polishes. they make the metal shiney, but the pits/dark spots remain.

Am i going to have to go all the way to a dremel to grind/polish it down?

If i do go all the way to dremelling it, how can I protect the exposed aluminum from the elements? if i get some clear coat and spray it over the freshly polished antena, will it last?

clear should last but make sure you prep the surface well and use prepsol or somthing so there is no residues.

I polished the antenna on my Ram. I used 1200 wet/dry, then used some simichrome metal polish. It looks much better now. I would vote for doing the sanding, then polish. As far as keepingit shiny, you;ll have to crawl up there every once in a while and polish it.
