polishing help

I just got a flex package deal from autogeek complete with wolfgang swirl remover, finishing glaze and sealant. I am using it to fix my wife's black Mustang. So far I am seeing good results, but I am not completely satisfied just yet. I have been using an orange pad with the swirl remover and I am unable to get all the marks out of the clearcoat. The first picture shows a 50/50 before and after. The second picture shows deeper marks that I have been unable to get out. I wanted to get some advice to see if I need a different pad/product combo or do I just need to keep at it with my current combo.

I am new to the world of machine polishing so any advice would be great. Thanks,

Chris

first off, if you can feel those marks with your finger nail...they're not coming off with just polishing. Second, I have never tried the wolfgang swirl remover but you may want to try another swirl remover or even a compound.

Hmmm...

What speed are you using? I'm thinking you need something with more correcting power than the Swirl Remover and maybe even a compound with a yellow pad.

I use GlossHaus, and I'd probably have a pass with the medium compound/orange pad and see what that does, going to the aggressive compound/yellow pad if necessary.

The surface is smooth, after claying and an initial pass with the orange pad and swirl remover. Would the yellow pad be the next option to try? I've tried Maguiers scratchx to no avail. I guess I will give it another pass or two to see if I can get some better results.

On another note, I notice that I get a lot of dust on the car when I am polishing. Is this normal or possible using too much/little product on the pad. Wipes right up and doesn't cause any problems other than giving me one more thing to clean up. Thanks,

Your using "middle of the road" polishes. You really need a compound of some sort. I have found the Optimum Compound II and Polish II to be a great combo when you add about 10-15lbs of pressure.

Just remember the more you get out, the less clear coat you have remaining. Those look like some serious swirls. Try to reach a happy median or level of satisfaction which still enables for upkeep down the road, and which passes your criteria for "vast improvement''.

The products you are using are really targeted at light swirls, and your issues area little more serious than that. The orange LC pad is a medium cut pad (vs. the light cut white pad, which I use for glaze) and is usually matched to medium and fine polishes. The yellow LC pad is aggressive and is used with an aggressive compound.

I'd have a pass with something more aggressive and the orange pad on a test area and see where you are at. You might dial up the speed a bit.

As for the dusting, many polishes have some dusting. Are you conditioning the pad with a little water mist before applying the product?

thanks for all the advice. Looks like I will settle for a happy medium with the majority of the swirls removed. Even with the remaining swirl marks the car looks 100% better then it did before I got my Flex.
