i have a few scratched cd's i want to polish out. thery're filled with tons of fine scratches, nothing deep. i tried OD light polish by hand, as well as plastx by hand. it only made them worse

i have a PC and a variety of polishes. can i polish them out to make them look new? or at least readable?

btw, i tried the CD test, but it didnt work out great :grinno::grinno:

thanks!

I've used ScratchX on a microfiber by hand with great success. I think most mild polishes will work, I only use ScratchX because I have an almost full tube of it that I never use.

I've used Menz PO106FF on a rotary at 1k rpms with a finishing wool pad to keep the heat down to restore DVD's and CD's that were completely unplayable. Just be careful not to get it too hot, and don't use alot of pressure. Foam pads will get the CD/DVD hot really fast, so if you must use foam, be careful.

If you have a rotary, use that instead of the pc. The pc's oscillation makes it a bit more difficult to use on a disc. Don't be too concerned about polishing it out to be 100% scratch free. Just a very thin layer of the disc needs to be removed in order for it to play again correctly. A Disc Dr. was one of those items that for years was always on my list of items to get, but after saving numerous discs with my Makita it looks like I'll never have to waste my $30 on one.
