Polisher machine question

Hello, I'm new to polisher machine. All this while I've been using hands on applying car care products. Now that my car's got some swirls here and there and that I'm thinking it's time to experiment with some other products out there, I'm thinking of getting a polisher machine.

Can anyone direct me to where I can read the 101 of polisher machine? I read that some machine, used by a newbie, can damage paint. I also get it that there are several categories of machine.
