Please help with Ford Truck Wheels

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Ford F-350 Diesel truck (used) and I would like to polish the wheels. It looks to me as if the person who owned it previously took a brillo pad to them to shine them up and I would like to remove some of the scratches.

The problem I am having is I have no idea if they are clear coated or not. I wanted to use Blackfire fine cut aluminum polish, but it is not recommended for clear coated wheels. I used the Mother's power ball with some Eagle One nano polish, but it didn't seem to touch the scratches.

Does anyone have any clue if these wheels are clear coated or chromed or what? Also, the new armor all wheel protector....any good? Thanks so much for your help.

Here is a link to what the wheels look like

If they're like other Ford "chrome" wheels, like I have on my explorer, they are a "chromeish" plastic over steel. I'm sure someone else has come up with a plan for cleaning them and will chime in. I haven't yet had to deal with scratches in mine yet, so I don't have a plan for them... I wouldn't go with anything overly abrasive, but a quick search on plastic chrome trim cleaning/scratch removal may lead you down the right path..

As far as the armorall wheel protectant it works great, probably the only thing i like about ArmorAll. And as far as the wheels you may have to call the dealership,if they are factory wheels, or maybe someone on here has the same wheels. If they are clear coat i'm sure you could just buff them out.

Thanks for the quick replies Gents. Believe it or not calling the company and getting a straight answer has proven to be a futile exercise. I am hoping that someone here might have some first hand experience as I can't seem to nail down exactly what they are made from or if they are clear coated. Hopefully others will chime in..

Thanks again,

Bobby

easiest way to tell is by using a metal polish in an inconspicuous area...if it turns black then its not clear coated, and proceed with the rest of the rim
