Playing With The GT3 Race Car

Just One More Coat
I had the chance to work on this Porcshe GT3 race car over the weekend. It was allot of fun as I had a lift to work with. We removed the wheels and I had to use laqure thinner to clean the rubber out of the wells. I also used Simple Green automotive for a degreaser, but that had little effect on the heavy rubber areas. The inside as you can see is completly guted so I just wiped the area down and coated it with a spray on polish that dires to a nice glass. The out side althought its a new car is trashed on the front from rock chips. I clayed to get as clean as possible then used a blue edge pad with Pro-polish on the hood then came back with the same pad with P-w-C on the whole car. Rims where cleaned with PB S&R and scrubed up....tires I did nothing to them he was going to be putting new ones on....the tires where so soft that the rock where stuck in them...the cost is $1600 a set and they only last 4 hours on the track...The owner was so impressed with my work that he wants me out once a month for a cleaning....The cost for this job was $350 and took me about 6 hours.

wow lucky you. Did you take anymore pics?

I took about 30 pics but this system will not let me upload them...says that I have hit the maxed allowed anyone know how to delete pics?

That's a pretty fierce machine to be detailing. I would be grinning from ear to ear if I were you. If you've run out of space for pictures here, I would suggest www.photobucket.com. You have to create an account, but it's free and you get your own album there.

I can't even imagine what those wells looked like before you started! Did that wheel brush you picked up on Friday work good on those wheels? :D
Where did you work on it at, right here in SR/RP area or was it out at Sears Pt.?
And if you ever need any help on weekends with that car, you know how to get ahold of me, if not I think Tim's got my #$ on their computer :D

NICE GT3!

Here's my '06 C2S with Aero and PCCB's. Try detailing this black monster!

The new 997's are just sick sick sick! The PCCB's are anchors!!

I thought that I had shot before's of the wells and didn't they where black from rubber....I used lacquer thinner to remove the heavy parts of rubber and Simple Green automotive for the rest....The LT took almost all of the rubber off with ease..the rest I used assorted brushes....best part is taking the tires off and the lift what a joy to work on that way...He did say that I could use it for my car anytime....so some time soon I'm going to do the same with my 540 and paint the rotors and hubs on the car.

This guy is an independent racer and lives out towards Bodega Bay area on 55 acres quit a nice place that he has out there.

Looks like I'm going to get this one once a month for cleaning and I hope that I can network into the other guys that he races with...there is money in race cars and the detailing needs are a bit different....They are not as concerned about the painted areas...but more how clean everything is not shiny

Dean I do a couple of 911's and they are such nice cars...I've been a BMW fan since the 70's the German engineering is wonderful, I really don't think that anyone car manufacturer comes close as the Germans do

Man, you got that right! German engineering has always been superb! Fit/finish is just outstanding!

Getting used to driving a rear engine car now, and will be at one of the PDE's.
