Plastic Dressing Question

I hope this is in the right place.

I am using Adams VRT for the plastic and trim on my truck and I have been having issues with it getting on the paint. I also use it on the bed liner that is on my rocker panels and the top of the bedsides. When it gets on the paint it is really hard to get it off. Should I be applying this after I rinse it and before I wash it? Right now I am doing it after everything is dry and then I have to go back over it with detail spray and clean it all off which is a pain. Here is a pic of my truck to show how much stuff I have to apply this to. Any tips would be helpful.

You are doing the right thing. Only thing I can recommend is using some tape so that you don't get it on the paint. Be sure to get some good tape that doesn't leave any tape residue behind.

Welcome to the Forum -

You might consider getting an Applicator that has sharp edges and is dense enough so it is stiffer and will not so easily touch parts you dont want it to touch..

You will have to be really careful and go slow and really watch the distance between the applicator and the paintwork, to keep it off the paintwork..

You have ALOT of trim to do ! :)

I have tried dozens of applicators over that many years easily, and have found the best one for my needs is the TuffShine Orange Foam Applicator they sell for applying their liquid product..

You should be able to find it on this website and others as well, that sell TuffShine products..

I like it because it is not very big, longer, so it fits in your hand better, has sharp edges and is stiff enough to not absorb all your product, and do straight, precise application lines...

Another thought - perhaps you might want to evaluate the longevity of your product vs how much you like it, and see if there is another one that will look great and last a long/longer time ?

Good luck !

Thank you Stokdgs. I will have to try a few different applicators and products. I diluted the Adams VRT and used it in a spray bottle to cover the bed liner on the sides and then wipe it down. Thanks for the tip. I will look into the TuffShine products and try them out.

On that note why not use something like CQuartz Dlux or Gtechiq C4 to protect these problem areas and the other random bits that are easily visible. These coatings will last you close to a year if not longer depending on conditions etc.. I like SVRT but for durability it really only lasts about 3 weeks maybe..

Other than that Dan has given you great advice and what I mentioned above is what I believe he was hinting at.

Nice truck. A lot of trim. :( I would look into WGTS. I have had great luck with this product and it never ran onto the paint after a wash or rain.

Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant

And it lasts months not weeks. A small foam applicator will let you apply it without drama. And if some gets on the paint, no worries. It will wipe right off. I have a xterra. So i have more than my share of trim. Bumpers/roof etc...

Forgot to add...Pre clean the trim with mothers trim cleaner!

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/mothers-trim-cleaner.html

This will prep all your trim and remove all old dressings. So in short, wash your truck as usuall. Dry. Clean your trim with mothers. Then apply WGTS. Done.
