I'm into racing my 78 Pinto I've done a few mods already like 140 cfm was raised to over 190 cfm.. for the engine is it the 1.6 head or the 2 litre head I should go about changing? Any suggestions??

I'm also on the lookout for some of it's parts:

- 4cyl.; 2.3L; AC condenser

- cat converter(universal)

- glass mirrors

Thanks!

i know someone who modified his 80.

It takes a lot of skimming to get a 2 litre head to the desired chamber volume if you're on racing.. This also weakens the deck face. The 1.6 head can often give you the desired compression ratio without a lot of machining

i happen to go about these Ford Pinto Parts. you can check that out.

Knew a guy back in school who used to race his. This was back in '79 (damn, I'm old).

Anyway he was goofing off one evening with the nitrous, revved it a little too hard and it grenaded on him.

Funny thing is there's been an awful lot of serious racing done with various versions of the Ford fours over the years. If you've got the money to throw at it you can get some amazing results.

Fond memory of a race I went to at Riverside, the Times Grand Prix of Endurance. The fastest cars were the prototypes, V12 Jags, Porsche 956 turbos, Porsche turbo, Buick Turbo and V8 Chevy powered Marches. The fastest of the lot were the Ford Probe 2.3L turbo fours.

(note: Ford called a bunch of racers and concepts "Probes" before they came up with the Mazda based street Probe).

PC.

What about throwing a motor from a SVO Mustang or T-Bird Turbo Coupe in it? Or, if all else fails, toss a stroked 351 or 460 in it.

I had seen a Pinto w/a rotary(no no not that thing we use to polisher with :D ) Anything its possible, if you have alot of moola to burn...period.
