Pinnacle Safe Scrub Sponge on Black Car?

Black 2007 Honda CR-V
I have a 2007 BLACK Honda CR-V. I washed it for the first time this morning. There was some bug residue that didn't come off during the washing on the front of the car and side mirrors. Is the Pinnacle Safe Scrub Sponge 100% safe to use on my black car without fear of scratching or marring the finish? Or should I try something else? I ended up spraying PB S&W on and wiping with a microfiber towel, but it required quite a bit of rubbing and reapplication to get the bug residue off.

With black, anything that you touch the paint with has the possibility to make swirls appear. Some believe that if you look at the paint wrong you can induce swirls :). The sponge, when used correctly can work really well but IMO I wouldn't take the risk on a nice looking vehicle. Poorboy's has a product called Bug Squash which is designed to clean off bugs on the paint. It works great. You just spray it on, wash over it with your normal mitt and soap and the bugs should disappear. Another possibility is to clay where the bugs are. Use a lot of lube and the clay will not marr the paint. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice. Since I don't want to take any chances with the finish on my new car, I'll try out Bug Squash. We live in the Washington, DC suburbs and the bugs aren't as bad as they are in Florida!

I'm assuming that Bug Squash can also be used on bird poop?

The soft scrub block is a great prep tool for details. It knocks out baked on bugs, tar, etc.... I would not use it on paint as part of a weekly maintenance routine -especially black paint as it can/will marr a little. When I'm prepping for a detail, I don't worry about it because I'm going to clay, polish, etc... anyways.

*When using the soft scrub block, be sure to pre-soak it for 5-10 minutes in your wash solution to soften it up.

For maintenance, I've found over time & experimentation that 2oz of BS +1oz of SS&S, and distilled water, mixed in a 32oz sprayer works very well during summer months for front end bug splatter.

Keeping your front end freshly waxed or sealed helps a lot too, as bug junk doesn't tend to bed into the paint and stick.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks so much. I'm new to the forum. Could you tell me what BS and SS&S stand for?

I recently aquired a bottle of BS and love it! Diluted 3:1 like specified on the bottle. Spray, let stand for 3-5 minutes and then wash over with the mitt and soap!

Also amazing to remove the grime off the windshield!

I'd second (or third) the recommendation for Bug Squash and throw in the good word for Poorboy's bug removing microfiber. Used in combination, they make an excellent bug removing pair.
