(pics) From good paint to GREAT paint!

"It's easy to make a dirty car look good, but it's harder to make a clean car look great"

Well, had my car repainted back in the end of August. Since then, I had the car polished (rotary) 3 weeks ago. Some swirls still remained though...I mean my body shop guy can only do so much to detail.

I saw where his problem areas were:

1)Not cleaning the surface completely before polishing the car.

2)Using an old T-shirt to remove remaining polish which ultimately lead to him putting more swirls in the paint.

Anyways, had Saturday free so I decided to go nuts on the paint before Old Mother Winter came upon us...

I did:

-Mother's Gold Car Wash

-Gliptone Swirl Free Polish (to take out the light swirls)

-Klasse AIO

-Klasse SG

-Meguiar's QD

No clay was neccessary since it was polished 3 weeks ago, not to mention the paint is relatively new. The polishing was done by folding a 1' x 1.5' Terry Towel 3 times (8th's) and using it as a large padded applicator. I had to press hard, but using the large padded applicator allowed me to work the polish through each panel with equal pressure to prevent from marring. I worked the polish through each panel 1-2 times depending on the swirls. I also folded the towel each time I started a new panel.

The results are impressing to me. I was extremely pleased. First time with Klasse on my car (have used in the past on others though). While looking at the pics, notice the rear lip for reflections and shine. I think that best shows the change since there was not the best of lighting (sorry).

I will be applying 3-4 more coats of Klasse SG over the next week or so. Have to wait for this rainy weather to improve. Until then, thanks for viewing. Any questions, please search for them first...If you can't find the answer, then post here. All comments are welcomed as well.

Cheers!:D

 I've also noticed it is hard to show the difference between good and excellent paint on film as dramatically as it is in real life. I took some pics of an Explorer Sport and while in person the difference was very apparent, on film it was more subtle.

I can see the paint has more 'pop' to it and the reflectivity on the close-ups is great, especially for a non-black car.

You sure like to brag a lot. :) It looks awesome, as usual. And you are correct, it's hard to tell a "good finish" from a "great finish" mainly because you, yourself, are too close to the painting to see the progress. Now, if you have somebody look at it before, then after, they'll notice more of a difference. Of course, it helps that they're not obsessed like me, you, scott, or others in getting things perfect. Then they may not even appreciate it so maybe it's a better idea to just let them notice that your car is has a "great" finish as opposed to a "good" finish on their own. Well, you can by all means go ahead and try this I'm just saying maybe they won't notice because they're not obsessed?

Oh man I need to stop drinking coffee at 9:30pm and at least get to doing this euthanasia paper.

You know you did an amazing job when you get those reflections with an overcast sky. Maybe someday you can get your GS-R to shine like mine (RIP).

Just kidding :D

Awesome car :up

that is one seriousley nice Type-R, that colour is probably the best suited to it apart from perhaps a deep metallic blue IMO. great shine and lovely rims, lovely ride height.

Shhh....It's a GSR. LoL. Thanks for the compliments and Milano Red Type R's are awesome. Mine's Cinnabar Red (repaint), slightly lighter than milano. :D

Jay,

What the heck did you use to make your GSR look so great? I have red and would love it to look like that!

I just washed it with Meguiar's Gold Glass + Vanilla Moose + S100

I used S100 on the wheels.

I wish I could get my Eclipse to shine like that - I need to use some of this DACP + SFP.
