i am going to lowes later on tonight to pick up my porter cable and its going to be a early morning for me tomorrow weather is going to be 75 and sunny so i want mustang convert all done by 3-4 pm now is there anything i have to be cautious when using a pc ( random orbit) i want to do it tomorrow so i will not have any poorboys products so i was wondering will meg's scratch X remove my swirls and if not is there any good products that i can pick up from a autozone something like that?? thanks

You really don't want to use ScratchX by PC. :) It is very aggressive stuff, and meant to be used by hand.

My first question, before we even get into products, would be: Do you have your pads? Since you have no products, I would have to assume that you don't have pads either. Were you thinking you'd use the el-cheapo pad that comes with the machine?

It's been tried, with varying results... For someone who has never used the PC before, though, I'd say try to be patient and wait till you have some decent quality pads in hand. That's just one man's opinion, though.

Yup get a good variety of pads (atleast 1 cutting, 2-5 polishing pads, and 1-2 finishing pads) along with a good backing plate and you'll be good to go. I'd wait until you have decent products before you do a detail, the results will be worth it. If you want to do it tomorrow, then I'd still wait until you have pads and products. If you're concerned about protection, you have waited this long for a detail, you can probably hold it off until you have good products. If you do have pads and no products, look into the Mothers Power Polish or Meguiars Pro polished (brown bottles). Follow up with Megs #26 or Mothers SynWax and you'll have a decent finish and protection. Whenever you make your order, make sure you order plenty of Microfiber towel as well.

While you can use the white pad that comes with the PC with some success, I would suggest that you heed the other's advice and try to get hold of a nice set of pads of varying aggressiveness. That's something you'll more than likely have to order online, unless you can get the Meg's Soft Buff locally.

Since you want to dive right in, I would suggest Meg's ColorX with the PC and the white pad. That should give you some practice with the PC straight away, and would probably produce pretty good results.

ScratchX is designed to be used by hand also. Using it by PC may produce less than stellar results. This topic has been discussed before, so I would suggest doing a search for it.
