I'm honestly shocked that someone of any importance hasn't fixed that big of an issue. It's amazing what will pass for a stock paint job on some vehicles today.

I was told once that at a Toyota dealership that Toyota used a rubberized paint additive to the paint on the bottom rocker panels to keep down paint chipping from rocks. I had noticed the bottom 6 inches of all of the 5 Toyota trucks that I have owned and others that I inspected for this had an OP look to them.
All of this was on the part of the rockers that has a down turn
and was not really apparent from a side veiw. But, when you got
down on the ground to wax and up close. Viola.....You could see
it very clear. All of my trucks were 4x4's and after the dealer
telling me this, I thought maybe that was actually some forward
thinking to do that. I have noticed it slightly on their cars but
it was not as pronounced.

The rocker panels its worst with orange peel on the Subarus.'

That's intentional due to it's being a chip resistant coating undrneath the actual base coat. That I don't mind because the panels reflect downward and you can't reallt tell unless you are at eye level with the panel. It should be standard practice for almost all manufacturers now.

Yep. Every Tacoma I have bought has this "added feature." Toyota has a name for it, I just can't recall exactly what it is. It supposedly helps vut down on rock chippiage.

Not my Ford ;)

^ Yeah, I'd have to say Ford paint is respectable. Between my dad and I, we've owned 9 new Fords between the two of us since 1996 and the paint on all of them was durable and cleaned up really well. This Subaru stuff is for the birds. Need to get an Audi next time around. Beautiful paint on those things.

That’s not bad you should have seen my old black Blazer after I have it repainted. The front driver side fender was so bad if you looked at it from and angle it looked like someone took a Ballpin hammer to it. Two days of wet sanding, SSR3, SSR1, and it looked a little better then your pic.

I can't argue with you on that point. Here is a reflection shot off of my passenger side rear door. I have a picture without the reflection of the camera in it, but not many people believe that it's a reflection and not a regular picture without the reflection of the camera.
