Phantom Black Exterior Revival: Audi RS4 by autoLavish

This awesome B7 RS4 came to us in hopes of us being able to not only prep her for the Winter, but to give her back a little youth in the process. With nearly 40k miles, she was in good shape for her age, but could certainly use a little autoLavish love. After a thorough walk-through with the owner, the goal was to thoroughly clean and clay the exterior, bring back the exhaust tips to their original beauty, de-grease the door jams, clean the stock 19 inch rims which were currently removed, and leave the car ready for the Winter... all within a strict time limit as he had obligations for the evening. :WHEW: no problem...

Upon first inspection, the car wasn't too beat, but did have a lot of swirling and light marring that took away from the clarity and gloss of the finish, not to mention she was in need of a wash.

Jacob began by working on the already removed stock wheels. It's a lot easier and quicker to give a thorough cleaning to a wheel that's removed.

Done!

While the rims got cleaned, I started with the pre-soak

After a rinse, then a re-foam and wash, it was time to clay. Most of the car wasn't too bad, but certain areas were overly contaminated such as the usual aft of the wheels, the rear deck lid, the door sills, etc. A quick rewash after insured the paint was correctly prepped for machine correction.

Prior to taping the vehicle off, the sun decided to hide for the rest of the day making our job that much harder with the pearl paint. After trying several combinations to maximize results in the time we had left, we ended up going with M105 on the Flex with a Meguiar's W66 backing plate and an orange LC pad on the trunk lid, hood, and roof, then everything else was hit with Meguiar's M205 on the PC with an orange LC pad.

left side corrected, right side still with spider swirls

No sun looks like this:

Inside the door handles was hard to capture, but you'll get the idea

Polishing complete, a final quick wash to remove dust, oils, etc from the surface of the car.

During the final wipe-down, it seemed like you could dive into the finish. The Zaino Z6 was like butter over the Danase Paint Sealant in the cool evening.

Beautiful turnaround on that paint, it was quite faded before and you guys got it back looking glossy again. Also, the stock rims came out looking brand new! The M105/Orange LC/PC has been my go to for my last couple of details, it works awesome. Great job guys!

Nice work guys! Sharp looking car too! :2thumbs:

Man there are many days where I wish I had another detailer working with me to get the car done in half the time. :D

Great job Marc! That looks awesome!

You made cleaning the inside of the wheels look easy, any chance you could detail what material and chemical you used?

Thanks for posting, well done!

Thank's Shaun! 105 is surely a great product. We tried half a dozen combos to get it right, but 105 and 205 had the cut needed, and they finished down the best as well. We hope to do more to this ride in the Spring, but for now time was a key issue.

great job man, are you using the customers power and electricity?

Dustn, thank you and yes - we're hooked up to the client's water/juice

I hear you Rasky. Having two pros on a job making things MUCH faster, and because Jacob and I think so much alike - we feed off each other and work more efficiently. Set-up, work, and take-down all go by MUCH quicker, and you get the advantage of a quality second opinion on everything.

That's what I'm talkin' about, Marc! Great work, AutoLavish! Love RS4's... they hit a sweet spot with me.

I feel you bro! I appreciate the kind words Aaron and that last Turbo you posted looked outstanding - I can't wait to see what you have next!

Thank you Luke.

Inside the door jams were degreased with body-solvent followed by a thorough rinsing with diluted ONR. The stock wheels (clear-coated) were cleaned with Meguiar's Wheel Brightener (4:1) and various brushes + the black shmitt. Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash & Clear got called to duty for washing / foaming. Meg's Super Degreaser (4:1) and #0000 steel wool brought back the exhaust tips fairly quickly, and if there are any other things anyone wants to know about - just ask as that's all I can think of for now :)

They're awesome machines, and the rarity makes them that much more cool. Thank you!

Nice job, that is one sweet looking car, and I bet those wheels looked completely different after that deep cleaning!

That RS4 looks great, especially for how quickly you guys did it! :2thumbs:

I bet the owner was more than pleased. That's one sweet daily driver, especially in the snow!

Much appreciated Megan, and the stock rims sure did come back quite a bit after a thorough cleaning

You're not kidding - I wish I had one of these! As for the time - that's why there weren't more pics, and don't forget that things go much quicker with two guys working :)

What a night & day difference!!

Top notch work :2thumbs:

Rick you're the man - thanks for the support. I deeply envy your ability to constantly crack out amazing work and seemingly ALWAYS get full sun shots. I feel like the last 5 details I've done have all been cloudy :(

Thats one sweet detail. Amazing job

I wouldn't even be able to detail that car because I would be drooling all over it.

lol thanks JCW. She surely is pretty and hopefully when we do more work on her in the Spring we'll be able to finally get our full-sun shots
