Here is an easy, low cost way to get new detailing customers. Just go out there and talk to at least 25 people about your detailing services. When you do this you are almost certain to get a least 1 new customer everytime. Try setting aside at least one day per week devoted entirely to person-to-person direct sales.
Where do the people in your targeted market live? Where do they work? These are the areas where you will want to spend most of your time. It is important to make a good first impression. Always present yourself in a professional manner.
Whenever you see either an expensive car or a well maintained car parked in a driveway, that is an invitation to ring the doorbell and talk directly to the owner. Ring the bell, introduce yourself, and simply say; 'I noticed your car and thought you would be interested in knowing about my professional detailing services'. Always speak directly with the owner. Let that person know that you offer professional detailing services, hand them your business card and thank them for their time. Keep it brief.
Going door-to-door and talking to everyone in the neighborhood will usually not yeild very good results. It is all about talking directly with someone who keeps their car cleaned and well maintained. That person is usually going to be part of your target market. Remember, always keep it brief. It is not a good idea to try to talk someone into having their car detailed. If they are interested, you will know it right away.
Be willing to accept the fact that probably 24 out of every 25 people you talk to will decline your offer. That is a 96% rejection rate. It would be easy to just give up after talking to the first few people. However, that is not what it is about. Failure is not an option. It is about going out there and getting new customers, one at a time. The odds of landing that new customer are only in your favor when you continue on and actually talk to at least 25 people. Do not allow yourself to get discouraged. Think positively. The next person you talk to could possibly be your next new customer.
Most of all; have fun and enjoy yourself!
