Peanut butter!

DaGonz

Autopia fire/rescue.
Today I detailed a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis that had a problem with wax residue staining the plastic trim surrounding the tail light lenses and the trunklid area.

I tried using Zep Citrus degreaser and an old toothbrush.... nothing happened.

I tried Solv-All and an old toothbrush (similar to DuPont Prep-Sol)... nothing happened.

I remembered reading the about the peanut butter trick mentioned on the Autopia forums, and since we had an almost empty jar of Skippy in the cabinet, I tried it, applying it with an old toothbrush and wiping down the trim...

Aye Carumba! it took the wax stains right out! :D :up

Whoever thought of that.... thank you! :bounce

I applied the PB, removed it, went over the area with QD to insure that there was no PB left on the tirm... and the stains were gone!

the oils in PB will remove some of the wax its an old trick. Goo Gone is another with a tooth brush becareful not to get to much on the paint.

The best that I have seen is a product by Poorboys World called trim restorer takes it rigth off and cleans and shines the trim at the same time.

I'm not here to promote any other vnedors but this one doose the job NOW!

You could try a stiff brush and instead of scrubbing, try to poke the bristles straight at the residue, you might need a QD or water. It works on some stains.

I prefer to use the tried and true method of a toothbrush and isoprophol alcohol. Has alwas been a permanent fix for me.

Besides, using Peanut Butter can cause scratches.

I hate coming out and finding squirrels and cats clawing at my trim! :D

I have tried the peanut buuter method.

Looked good in the garage with dim lighting.

Took it outside and i realized...

I used extra chunky... :(

;)

I always tape off mouldings and trim before using the rotary or PC.

This was a car that had been maintained by it's previous owner, who apparently slatherd wax ( there was bottle of Turtle wax in the trunk) everywhere and anywhere.

I used the PB as a a last resort!
